bicykillgaz
hi, I've read people on hear say that when using a hmr rabbits don't seem to spook as much as with a .22sub, do you think the same would apply to a .22hv as they have a fairly loud crack even with a mod, i've never heard a hmr go off so got no idea if there similar sounding or not, but i've got a box of winchester 'lazers' hv's i keep for hare but never thought to use them on rabbit due to the noise. I think i'll give it a go and let you know, the only problem i can see is the lack of long range accuracy hv's seem to have. Do any of you use hv's and how do you find the nearby rabbits react? Gobfish
I find the HMR with a Mod actually quieter than HV .22, even with the same Mod. I use Winchester wildcats which are incredibly noisy, mod or not, but run subs through it and I'm sure can hear the pin striking the case, good out to 80 yards too, they are probably good for longer shots but I've not tried. I was concerned about the HMR being too noisy but I tend to use it in the 80-150 yard range, the nearby rabbits look around but don't seem to be sure what and where the noise was by the time they decide to move it's normally too late

Atb gary I've read loads about people being abducted by Aliens!!! :look: :look: ...and according to the "Sport", Elvis is alive and driving a bus on the moon! EVERY site is different, and just maybe a HMR spooks bunny less on some shots than a .22lr with subs and a good mod....then again...
al4x
rabbits don't spook as they can't locate the source of the noise with an HMR, .22lr is quiet till it contacts a rabbits skull so it really is horses for courses. With a LR the only advantage is using subs. Go HV and you might as well get an HMR as its far more accurate
bicykillgaz
cheers for that, i think i'll stick with subs and get rid of the hv's, i've not seen any hare on my new land which was all i've ever used them on anyway. Cheers for the replies
ST3V3
I tried winchester lazers in my 452 and found my shot gun grouped better if I ever pass gainsborough i'll drop off the 60 or so i've got left unless anyone else wants them

activeviii
I like to think that the rabbit is trying to work out where the shot came from. with a sub there is no echo so easy to work out but with a hmr you get an echo bouncing around. i get this when pigeon shooting. in open areas i shoot a pigeon and then ones out in the field fly away. but when im shooting on the side of a hill i get a bigger rapor and the sound bounces more. these pigeons fly off in all directions. this is with a shotgun mind and sometimes i think i think to much. ollie
I always carry a magazine with subs and a magazine with HV's. I use the subs on bunnies inside 60 yards and anything over this I use the HV's (going out to 100+ yards). I have found a good combination of Sub and HV that doesn't affect accuracy; the sub is zeroed at 60 yards and HV at 90.

I have found a good combination of Sub and HV that doesn't affect accuracy; the sub is zeroed at 60 yards and HV at 90. I would tend to agree, my .22lr used to shoot CCI 40g HP Subs to 60yards and the CCI Velocitors to around 95yards, useful at the time but the Velocitors did not group anywhere near as well as the subs. Time moves on and my .22lr is exclusively a sub sonic tool today using Magtech subs. Edited September 14, 2010 by Dekers
the running man
I used to keep some .22 stingers for putting down animals that some of the farmers would ask of me. The previous posts are correct they are poor in the accuracy dept, or at least they are today,I used them in the 50m stages at 1500 comps wen it shot it with my ruger pistol, those were the days!
