Hey up guys,

went to the East Yorkshire Gun Club the other weekend and shot some skeet and compak, really enjoyed the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff, just wondering who else out there goes to this venue?

Cheers

Remmi

I used to be a member, but I go to Monckton at North Newbald, just because its closer really!

Hi Remmi, do you mean Humberside shooting grounds at Brandesburton, just off the A165?

I live in the village and am a member, but I have to say I haven't been up for a while.

I had some really good lessons there from Bob F when I started. Could do with some more to sharpen up a bit!! :good:

Tend to shoot mid week so its easier to go up to Brandesburton when you're on your Tod...

I'll make an effort to go this next time off the rig and show my face. ???

Always wanted to try Monkton, but whenever I've popped in there is never anyone about...

Again could just be a midweek thing, I tend to have family commitments at the weekend!

Have you tried knocking on the bungalow, if you can get past the dog?! If not , they'r ofter tinkering around at the bottom of the hill in the shed. I normally drop them an email before I go just to make sure.

East Yorkshire Gun Club is sadly no more and I'm sure Billy Walker the very long time ground manager is turning in his grave. The club was liquidated in July and the phoenix from the ashes is known as Beverley Clay Target Centre. It is predominately a Skeet and Trap club, although they do have a Compak sporting layout. The woods haven't been used for Sporting for years. To us older shooters it will be forever known as EYGC though.

I think the last time they had a 100 reg sporting shoot in the woods could have been 7 or 8 years ago. It was a National Inter Counties shoot and got a good three page write up in "Pull Magazine" and was enjoyed by most entrants, myself included.

I can remember shooting a good fitasc shoot there in 2001 too !!

As 'philr' says only any good for trap and skeet now, the rest is just a memory.

True enough about Park Lodge, hope they make a go of it this time. They've got the right man in to set the targets for the shoot :good:

What's your thoughts on Sport - Trap ? I hope that doesn't cost me a target on sunday :hmm::lol:

Sportrap is acceptable  I'm not going though, I just never seem to shoot well at Rufforth so I am boycotting the place :hmm:

Who is setting the targets at Park Lodge? :hmm: Despite is being a bit flat and bland, I'm quite looking forward to it - their towers can throw some awesome targets :good:

Ta for that. I will give them a shout rather than dropping in next time.

Got the letter a few months ago. Hopefully the new regime will get things back on track.

I think the woods have been off the menu for a while cos they have had people in 'reclaiming lead' from the soil, there were also issues caused by the flooding in 2007.

When I went past last week, the signs at the end of the road still displayed East Yorkshire Gun Club but surely just a matter of time.

Here'e to the future :hmm:

Keith Roe's setting the targets

With a bit of co operation from the ground and Keiths targets it should be a good shoot.

Appologies for the name confusion, I merely called it that because the score cards that I took home still say East Yorkshire Gun Club at the top of them, it is indeed the venue near cherry burton. My skeet improved noticeably after a bit of time spent with a fella called Barry, 79 years of age and a top bloke! Good to see a few of you go, I have been to Newbald too, that high tower throws some bloody hard birds!
