njc110381
I picked up a used Baikal Hushpower today. It looked in great condition and after a few shots by the seller and a broken clay by myself I took it. As always when I get a new gun I decided to take it apart! It's good to know how things work and also give them a good clean and check over. Well, getting the mod off was a challenge to say the least. I recon I've spent an hour fiddling about trying to gently persuade the bush past all the fouling! It's clean now and no doubt louder but I think it needed the good cleaning it got! Finally getting to what I'm here for - is there an easy way to do this for next time? I was tempted to soak it in a tub of diesel but wasn't sure if it may damage the finish of the barrel or moderator? It would certainly save a lot of effort! EDIT.... When test firing it I was amazed at the difference in sound between Eley Fourlong (2.5" 12.5g) and Hull (2.5" 11g). The Eleys are loads better but I'm always open to suggestions of quieter shells. Paddy Galore!
they do get filthy inside, no getting round it. a bit of copper slip on the threads will help some, a few tears back i had a pedretti which hadn't been stripped since it was new, an absolute swine to strip and clean. personally i prefer 3" subs in mine. njc110381
I'll give the 3" subs a try. I've read that they're not that quiet though so haven't bothered so far. The extra shot would be handy, 12.5g is pretty light!
sitsinhedges
I don't usually leave mine that long but I understand a spray with welders anti spatter spray will stop fouling from sticking inside in future

I think that eley's theory is if you shoot something subsonic, then throw as much lead at it as possible.
njc110381
I smoked a couple of Magpies with the 12.5s today so I think I'll stick with them until I'm passing a shop that sells subs. They're very quiet and do the job so no point making too much effort to change. The Maggies have learned over time that they're safe if they sit in the far side of the trees. My air rifle pellets just don't make it through to them. They had a nasty shock this morning!
vole
The first few times you remove it should decoke it enough for it to becomeless resistant when the bushes are pulled through it . My Pedretti mod is easy to get on and off now .
utectok
Eley fourlong is quiter than 3" subs in a hushpower in my experience. I thought a bit of a Coked up mod was a good thing quieter ? I don't take mine off any more to much hassle!
HW682
I thought a bit of a Coked up mod was a good thing quieter ? That's what the manufacturer says. I used some 009 and a stiff tooth brush but some of the ports are still well bunged up
brentus
i use eley 3 inch subs for stealth work & 3 inch normal for everyday use (which are still rather quiet & a lot harder hitting) iv'e fired a 1000 carts and have never stipped it down because the more i use it the quieter it goes so why spoil a good set up. thats my theory anyway GOOD HUNTING

vole
My 1st Hushpower Pedretti barrel had never been cleaned and there was bad pitting around the holes in the barrel . I make sure my present one is kept well maintained .
steve_b_wales
Hoppe's 009 is excellent for cleaning fouling on fireams. I usesd to use it on my revolvers (.357 & .44mag) in the good old days when they were legal, and it was brilliant. I use it now to clean the chambers on my shotguns/rifles. brentus
if you use eley cartriiges they are guaranteed anti corrosive & anti rust , i just clean the barrel every outing with a phospher bronze brush & bore solvent to keep the vent holes clear. (after all you wouldn't strip & clean your cars pistons every 10,000 miles)
