one hell of a head ache

My mate called round yesterday evening and asked if i was up to anything as he needed to go out to see whats about where the shoot is as we haven't been over for 2 weeks :good:

I was in the passenger seat with my trusty 223 while he drove. We had a quick drive to where we've have a good few foxes but nothing,

we drove up the road to the far end of the permissions and as we drove past the one gate i spotted a pair of eyes glinting back at me, Joel stopped the truck and put the lamp back on it, i was right it was a fox in the middle of a grazing field about 120yds away, no sooner had the lamp been on it the fox started to leg it from right to left across the field, there wasn't time to get out of the truck so i said to Joel keep it in the light an i'll have it when it stops.

I had the rifle out the window, canted on the wing mirror at about 45 deg as of the way we was positioned in the gate and the direction the fox was heading. Fox was now running straight away in front of me(had a hill as a back stop so was 110% safe shot), i followed it through the scope timed it right and squeezed a shot off at the back of its head. CRACK came back and fox dropped @ about 180yds :P:hmm: went over to it and there was a nice young vixen with a splitting head ache

this is my first shot on a fox on the move, first out of the truck and first head shot, not a bad one if i do say so myself :)

not as far as SPRAGS the other week but i'll soon catch you up mate :good:

Please avoid posting graphic photographs of animals that have been shot. We all know what effect a bullet has when hitting an animals head. But, as this is an open forum, non shooter's etc, will not understand, and would probably use said photographs against us.

Your photograph has been removed. If you must show your results, please use the email or PM system.

It's a shooting forum ***!

In reply to the above two posts (not that I have to justify myself) what image do you think shooters would protray with photographs of animals showing their heads blown off /eyes blown out /brains etc all over the place. Bloodthirsty is one that springs to mind. As I stated, we all know what a high velocity bullet will do to flesh etc when it hits, so there's no need to show it on this forum. Use the email or PM system if you feel the need to post, or look at this type of photograph.

As I see it, the post was put up because he is keen, not to show off a fox with its head taken off, it is quite well written and shows somebody has taken the time to detail what happened.

Compared to a lot of **** that is posted on here, you where to quick to chastise him, how about a little praise for a change!

Regarding you not having to justify yourself, why did you write the above reply?

Further more, a polite PM would serve a much better suggestion instead of chastising somebody on an open forum!

I must admit this a strange reaction IMO even though I have not see the offending picture .

Surley in terms of damage to our sport the picture of a terrier just about seize a rabbit in a longnet in MAGWITCH pictures title hedgerow hunting shows the total fear that a animal must get when it about to caught and killed .

Some think that occurs ever time we hunt with dogs but this picture showed a shot fox that would of know very little about its death and would have not had that dreaded feeling of the coming death that that rabbit would be feeeling.

Still boys this is what MODS are for I guess .

Kind regards OTH

Well you have nearly said it all, just how do mods get to where they are? do they do a course? What prerequisite do they have to cast over the forum?

May be they are bank mangers who appoint their self’s to the rank of captain of the Walmington-on-Sea home guard!!

Who knows, may be they will tell us insted of telling us off

I'm far from ashamed of what I do in the name of pest control and sport. And to be honest I couldn't care about this photo having seen hundreds of dead foxes myself.

That said...

What we need to remember is that this is a shooting forum... there are plenty of dead fox photo's on google images for the antis to obtain anyway... (and to be honest I doubt they really care! - "oh look here's a photo of a very humanely controlled fox" hmm hardly the usual pack of fox hounds imagery we typically see.

This country is becoming what it is for people deciding that things "might" offend others.

It won't be long before we will all be eating mung beans and cardboard for fear of offending anyone / anything!

It's pc gone mad.

By all means add a "GRAPHIC" tag to posts such as these that way people can choose, but please try to remember the basis of this forum... is "Shooting and Country sports" not satisfying animal rights campaigners.

Hunting involves blood, although i havent see the pic i dont mind seeing it because when i login to forums such as this i know what i will be seeing and it is expected.

Nothing to hide there. Just my thoughts.

Having said that. If the Mods feel it is not suitable so be it.

How about asking why the OP didn`t read the pinned topics of this section ?

They don`t get paid, they do it because they like the site and want it to flourish, they do this because they have got a lot from the site and wish to give something back, they use up their time to do the 1001 things that NEED to be done and not just the chastising, just so a bad mouthing, inconsiderate person like yourself can throw his dummy out of the pram and if you don`t like it then just jog on my friend........................IMHO.

I have read the pinned topics before and like i said to Steve i didn't think it was too graphic unlike other pictures that are STILL on this forum.

He chose to remove it as he thinks its too graphic for the forum and i have NO problem with him doing so as they are the ones who run the site and make the rules.

He did pm me explaining why and also complimenting the shot anyway :P

one persons opinion of graphic is different to the next persons i suppose

I dont have a problem with the picture being removed, the post was more to explain my joy over the shot than the outcome or result of the actual hit on the fox, that was a good second tho :good:

i shot another 3 last night but wont put the pics up just incase  (will write a thread about last night outing later after i pick up my new rifle)

atb Richard ;) ;)
