BigMungo
Im thinking of purchasing a boresnake for cleaning my 12g...do they do a good job cleaning or should I stick with the classic rods, brushes and patches combo? Thoughts (and debates!) please
J@mes
Yes, I pass mine through twice - once on its own, and once with an oil coated rag in front of it and it does a fine job of cleaning the barrels. I put it through a 3rd time to start with with an oiled rag in front of it but it came out practically clean, so didn't bother again! Birdy
Of course it depends how much you put through your gun each day/week but I would (and do) use the boresnake weekly then a more comprehensive job with a cleaning kit monthly. If you keep on top of it, the 'snake does a good job as an interim cleaner.
twitchynik
Absolutely worth it. My bro uses rods and different ends and I use a boresnake. We compared guns after a cleaning session and there was no difference. Except he had to put all his cleaning kit back in its box... Pull mine through once each barrel after every shoot. vampire
I use a bore snake on my cz .22lr and the .410 but still have rods for the 12 bore, the bore snake is effortless and quick, does same job oh and you dont catch the action with a snake
chubbus
Hi buddy. If you want a cheap Bore Snake, i have made loads using Strimmer Cord or as the yanks say Weed Wacker cord. All you do is cut of a lenght a bit longer than your barrel , then using a match melt the 1 end to make a good sized blob, and cut a point on the other end. Simple. Chubbs. bullet boy
I always use a Boresnake on my Winchester SX3-it does an excellent job IMO.
J@mes
I stick mine in the washing machine, but I have noticed that doing this has caused it to "bloat" which makes it a fair bit harder to pull through the barrel! Might have to get a new one at some point!
Dekers
Im thinking of purchasing a boresnake for cleaning my 12g...do they do a good job cleaning or should I stick with the classic rods, brushes and patches combo?Thoughts (and debates!) please The Boresnake does a good job of reducing the highly corrosive propellant residue in you shotgun barrel, and many consider it is worth a pull through immediately after a shoot. Do not be fooled into believing it cleans your barrel, it doesn't, it just gives you a head start until you can get home and do the job properly! ATB! sitsinhedges
Bore snakes are great, esp if you get one from Hong Kong for a third of the UK price from that auction site. Exactly the same as a Hoppes boresnake for about £7 delivered
utectok
Brilliant IMHO
suggs
yep brilliant, always use mine straight after shooting before i go home, 1 or 2 pulls through and the barrels are spotless.. i use Eley carts and also find them to leave the barrels pretty clean compared to other makes i use so that helps
groach1234
No, Simply dont bother. As far as i see it they are for cleaning a blockage out in the field and how can you do that in reality? as the blockage would stop the rope going down the barrel. If you want fast and super effective get a paradox tool. One swipe down each barrel and clean as a whistle. Not cheap but simply amazing. >CLICK ME< George

The clay ground i shoot at has a paradox type cleaner big fluffy mop thing its OK but boresnake is as good and easier to clean, they are not for removing a blockage at all but for removing lead/plastic/powder from barrel after shooting. You drop the weighted brass end down the barrel from the breach and pull through the rest which has a mop and bronze brush built into the snake to loosen the crud for removal. http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/produc...TET800C'29/ £13 is pretty cheap if you want a long rod but the fact the bore snake fits in your pocket is great. I might get myself a Tetra next time I am in the sportsman and compare it to the snake http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/produc...#39;2F9'29/ (this is the one the Clay ground have for there guns) Edited November 6, 2010 by HDAV
