Shotgun Certificate

Recommended Posts

Unless the bobby is a fire arms officer handing your gun over to a non fire arms officer could be an offence in itself

Nope

as all police officers on duty are covered by Her Majesties exemption (thats from a member of SO18)

However any copper who has half a brain and an ounce of common sense will have a firearms officer come out who will be able to FULL checks and confirm that you are legally authorised to have the firearm in question

Yes any police officer can confiscate your guns. They would never get a FEO out. Many of them arn't even police officers. There is nothing that any officer can't check.

NO NO not a FLO from the licensing unit.

I mean An armed firearms officer, the coppers who carry and train with firearms.

ANY copper with half a brain cell and a ounce of common sense will not ever handle your firearm as 99% haven't got a dam clue

as to which end is which.

vast majority of the time if you get pulled over it will be a traffic unit NOT ALWAYS but mainly.

Unless they are firearms trained and carrying at least the Glock 17 they will/should call in the experts for public safety reasons

Like I said I speak to people in the job (looking to join one day) and even the MP5 using officers say they wouldn't know where to start with my SPAS12.

The other thing of course Is these officers can only speak for there own force-other forces "MAY" have different rules which "MAY"

or "MAY NOT" be in the public interest.

Nope

You are responsible for your Firearms and that inclucdes NOT handing them over to some oik of a copper that obviously knows nothing about guns. Should that situation develop, you politely ask them to get someone out who knows what they are doing. Frankly today it NEVER should happen, a radio call will de able to check the National Firearms Database to show you are licenced.

I'm probably misreading something, but where did FEO come from, I would have thought Firearms Officer, as in Armed Response, Not a FEO!

ATB!!

Keeping a copy of your certificates in with your shooting gear is not a bad idea. I would not be happy leaving a copy of my certificates full-time in my car in case it fell into the wrong hands - the crims would then know too much about what is in my home.

I was informed that whilst the Police can check your licences on the national database, that does not extend to permissions. So I carry a copy of the permission with me, in with my certificates, in case I am stopped. Saves waking the farmer up when I'm out lamping, or disturbing him on the weekend. Not all certificate holders obey the rules on only shooting where you have permission, and the police may want to check this aspect of it out if a member of the public has put in a complaint.

I would not be inclined to produce certificate or permission to anyone other than the landowner or the police.

I tend to be good at losing important documents so would feel much happier leaving the original shotgun cert at home and carry a photocopy.

Could this land me in hot water if ever i was stopped by the Police or anyone else for that matter?

Cheers

I have a gun slip with a zip pouch that my gun is kept in and i keep the cert in there, as you go out with the gun in a slip, walk to where you are shooting and when you are finnished put it away so if you loose the slip you will have lost your gun!! As the replys state you dont need it but much better to show it there and then, like not having your car docs etc, saves the hassle and the stress!!
