Vince Green
I don't know how you could enforce it, or communicate it it.
jigga
think its 15 days bad weather before a ban comes in, vince last season it was on all the news channels, newspapers, sporting magazines plus websites and forums, so would be hard to miss if a ban came in
guss109
Think it's a lot to do with people being honest and trust worthy to stick with the ban. I could be wrong
foxnet22
i for one would agree with it.and would hope the media get hold of it and put it on the news channel to show the public that we shooters are not all nutters running round with guns.and we can actually take time out to have a bit respect for animals that are finding it hard to cope in this weather as well as us.would they do this i dont think so because it shows a positive side to shooting and they just take time to show all negative reports on our chosen sport. shakin stevens
could be wrong but i think they are asking for voluntary retraint at the moment, and if a ban was going to start it would be thursday 16th dec for two weeks. Well said...sadly though many will choose not to observe a ban even in the harshest weather conditions. These are the people who shoot for the thrill of it rather than pest control as such and have almost an addiction to blasting anything that moves which is on the general licence. Like the fox hunters before us (and I was one) we are our own worst enemy when it comes to preserving and advertising the positive sides of vermin control. The Fox Hunts had ample opportunity to get their house in order in the public eye by ceasing some of the more barbaric aspects of fox hunting but they chose to ignore it and we all know what happened to them when the weight of Public Opinion got behind the campaign to stop it. If we all exercised a little self control and compassion when needed then with Pigeon, wildfowl and other vermin numbers as they are our sport is safe in the future. However if any of us flout imposed cessation periods and the media get hold of it then its the first wool thread from the hole in the pullover. poontang
I've just got come back from the marsh and it's not too bad at all. Hundreds of birds about, all seem to be flying as well as ever, and the 3 that I shot are all in good condition. We only had major snowfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, nothing yesterday and plenty of rain last night, which has helped thaw some of the snow. It's not too cold at the moment and we're forecast a bit of sun later so that should hopefully clear more of it. No need for a ban here at the moment. So anybody that doesn't shoot for pest control is an ****? I take it you roll all the wildfowlers and rough shooters in to that? Most of us hunt for the pot, not for pest control, and on my small shoot we have already stopped shooting.
dazza
There are those that are only out to shoot to kill as much as they can. No respect for anything so the ban will mean nothing to them.

Cant you read... I didnt say that at all. If you have stopped because of foul weather restraints or because you feel some respect and compassion to your quarry during these conditions then I say well done to you.
