foxbuster
How do guys? Have been offered a 1980 V8 for sweet f.a. Sounds good, but after a quick scan she needs a lot more than some tlc, Im not thinking about putting a ticket on it-just want to use it as a shooting wagon around the farm. Engine is the best bit of her-genuine 35k. Anyway, what i want to know are parts still readily available for it. Looks like the chassis needs some welding and leaf springs etc need renewing. Any help would be much appreciated.
al4x
buy something else, or break it for spares and put the money towards something else. you'll be forever underneath it rather than shooting and by the sounds of it unless you are good with a welder it'll cost you a packet to get sorted. HDAV
Genuine V8 LR (series 3? 3.5 V8 on carbs?) are potentially worth a good bit to those who trial, race them etc parts are available from various sources breakers, patterns, upgrades and genuine depends how deep your pockets are.... Lez325
I fail to see how- if the 35K miles are genuine, why it needs so much work? take it- sell the engine- make some money Juust a thought Les Edited December 10, 2010 by Lez325
al4x
simple Lez its sat still its still 30 years old laid up outside they will rust just slower than if you use them all the time. As HDAV says the guys who make hybrids out of them will pay denent money for one with that engine
Billy.
Parts will be of value, but I'd hate to see a working Landy broken up

Its basically been left standing to rot, actually think if it had been used frequently it wouldnt be in such a state. Am thinking of taking it, can do the welding myself (mechanical fitter by trade) and try and source various bits and pieces to get it up to a safe state. Failing that i'll break it for spares. As you stated, reckon the engine must be a worth a bit to the 'off-road' brigade?
J@mes
there are huge amounts of parts from aftermarket manufacturers, buy a landrover magazine and look at all the adverts for parts. Rimmer Bro's John Craddock Paddock Spares Bearmach Britpart all big suppliers of parts. You can still pretty much buy any part of any landrover that you require! Perfect vehicle for a man in your trade, like has been said above you can replace any part on a Landrover new or old for very little money especially if the work is done by yourself as labour charges are the only dear part of Landrover ownership. foxbuster
Cheers guys-your info is much appreciated. I worked afternoon shift today and the boss came into see me ''can you get the land rovers shifted by monday?''he asks, ''land rovers??'', ''yeah take the other 2 as well if you want-£300''. So this gets better/worse (not sure yet-lot of work!). So now the owner of a stage 1 109 v8, a 110 2.5td and (i think) the cream of the crop a factory fitted fire truck version!! Now i dont know squat about landie's but this has got to be a bargain? All of them are runners, but as stated they do need some work. I know theres some land rover buffs on here, so what you reckon the fire trucks worth?? I'll try and get some photos on here next week. Cheers guys. four-wheel-drive
If it is as you say only done 35k and is mechanically sound it would be a lot of work but you could get a new galvanized chassis I do not think that they are that expensive transfer all the parts and you will have a good shooting wagon for many years or you could just sell it on and make a good profit on it or you could forget it and get a little jap 4x4. Hi, A genuine stage 1 V8 landy is a very desirable vehicle to an enthusiast and the 110's and the firetender are also sought after, depending on model. One owner from new and low mileage is hardcore solihull 4x4 porn to the dedicated. If I was you I would get a brief appraisal on the condition of each and then advertise them in Land Rover magazine or EEEBBAYEE with a fair reserve and then invest the fair bit of cash you get in a tidy Landrover 200 tdi or toyota hilux. However if you are a welder, a believer and have too much time on your hands, then keep the V8, sell off the other two and buy a interim early 1990's leaf sprung toyota hilux for daily transport and keep the V8 as a project. LR parts are cheap and easy to get hold of. Then when the V8 is fixed up sell the Hilux for what you paid for it, or keep the hilux and sell the landy on. Though as life is short, to be honest, unless you are very keen I would sell the lot to fanatics and buy a hilux or 200tdi landy and spend your leisure time shooting or pleasuring the missis. George1990
Worst thing you could do is break an original V8, especially at 35k miles, and definitely if it's a Stage One! Which is likely. Do it up a bit and keep it for life - or sell it and make a good wad. And parts are still readily available.
