JonnyR
Hi All, Been invited to Scotland for New Year so need to find somewhere for dinner on the way. I went to Uni in Lancaster so thought it would be a good stop off en route. Any recommendations? cheers, Jon.
BlaserF3
This http://www.newholly.co.uk/ is OK. Tebay services on the M6 serve really good food.
vole
The New Inn at Yealand Conyers near Carnforth. Had my wedding reception there . The chefs used to do the Millar Howe at Windermere too . http://www.pub-explorer.com/lancs/pub/newinncarnforth.htm I went to Lancaster too , lived on Regent street and frequented the Brown Cow . Those were the days .
Psyxologos
I highly recommend the moghuls indian (garden street), the friends meeting place (near the train station) and any of the ancient pubs (merchant's, three mariners, George and dragon, wagon and horses). If you want some company pm me and I might be able to meet up!
Gordon R
I'm getting worried - too much agreeing with Mike. Another vote for Tebay Services. Generally, I do not rate motorway services at all, but this is the exception. Very good food, spotless and a very nice view. The duck pond is a bonus. http://www.visitcumbria.com/pen/tebay-services.htm

woodcock11
Tebay Services are great and so is the butcher's shop now open. If you want a real treat and have won the lottery, L'Enclume at CARTMEL is utterly brilliant - Michelin star - and you can also stay the night. The chef/owner is Simon Rogan an he also has a less expensive bistro called Rogans. In fact Cartmel is becoming a bit of a foodie destination with a cheese shop and a bakery just opened there. Sorry this info is a bit late for the trip to Scotland for the New Year but maybe next time?
