To stand or to sit

point and shoot

Big George says you shoot everything else standing up so why change in a hide? all in the footwork imo, if you are only swinging from the upper body you will soon run out of swing or "windscreen wipe" off the line. I use a shooting stick to sit on whilst waiting so I am just below the top of the hide peering through, then pop up when they are committed.

I know that most shooters sit down to shoot pigeon from a hide. I have done the same for years but it has occurred to me lately that I shoot far better when standing up in the approved shooting stance than I do when sitting down. Anybody else found the same?

Are you talking about standing up the hole day without a seat in the hide :hmm: I'd never take a shot sitting down, you've a much better chance standing like you've discovered.

For years I always used a bucket seat and stood up to shoot. However, my back was suffering from the seat because it didn't have a back rest; now I use a fishing chair, much more comfortable but because it is low down and not too easy to stand, I shoot sitting down. Took a little time to adjust but i quite like it now.

most of my shooting is done when i am knelt down.

i am younger gen so my knees dont give me any bother!

i kneel in creeks on foreshore when fowling and in ditches or hedgebacks when decoying pigeons, on the floor next to hedgerow when bolting bunnys.

i even kneel down most of the time in the woods when roosting.

the only time i stand is when on driven game (would look a bit daft if i knelt down next to my peg!)

9 times out of ten i will be shooting from a kneeling position and i hit plenty..sorry, maybe not plenty, i enjoy myself and dont always go home empty handed :good:

i dont shoot any better standing up, tried it many a time
