point and shoot Posted January 27, 2011 Report Share Posted January 27, 2011 I know that most shooters sit down to shoot pigeon from a hide. I have done the same for years but it has occurred to me lately that I shoot far better when standing up in the approved shooting stance than I do when sitting down. Anybody else found the same? yickdaz Posted January 27, 2011 Report Share Posted January 27, 2011 more often than not i shoot standing up but a few occations when pigeon come right over the hide in range i take em sat down but anyone will say the same you shoot way better standing because you can swing better and you have more balance. fuzrat Posted January 27, 2011 Report Share Posted January 27, 2011 Big George says you shoot everything else standing up so why change in a hide? all in the footwork imo, if you are only swinging from the upper body you will soon run out of swing or "windscreen wipe" off the line. I use a shooting stick to sit on whilst waiting so I am just below the top of the hide peering through, then pop up when they are committed. Les Are you talking about standing up the hole day without a seat in the hide I'd never take a shot sitting down, you've a much better chance standing like you've discovered. stripey999 Posted January 28, 2011 Report Share Posted January 28, 2011 For years I always used a bucket seat and stood up to shoot. However, my back was suffering from the seat because it didn't have a back rest; now I use a fishing chair, much more comfortable but because it is low down and not too easy to stand, I shoot sitting down. Fuzrat most of my shooting is done when i am knelt down. i am younger gen so my knees dont give me any bother! i kneel in creeks on foreshore when fowling and in ditches or hedgebacks when decoying pigeons, on the floor next to hedgerow when bolting bunnys. i even kneel down most of the time in the woods when roosting. the only time i stand is when on driven game (would look a bit daft if i knelt down next to my peg!) 9 times out of ten i will be shooting from a kneeling position and i hit plenty..sorry, maybe not plenty, i enjoy myself and dont always go home empty handed i dont shoot any better standing up, tried it many a time Edited January 28, 2011 by TJ91 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
