A little favourite subject of mine, collective nouns;

- A flock of camels

- A troubling of goldfish

- An exaggeration of fishermen

EDIT - time to add some useful ones;

Skulk of Foxes

Paddling or Team of Ducks

Sord or Sute of Mallards

Covey of Partridges or Quails

Nye of Pheasants

Nest of Rabbits

Fall of Woodcocks

So, what is, in your opinion, the best word to collectively describe shooters? A Toff, wad, range etc of shooters?

Ideas below :)

If they are well-to-do upper class types, it's a gaggle.

If riff-raff type shooters, then it's a grunge.

Naturally, these are both on the ground and stationary, 'in flight' they are a majorflap and a trudge respectively.

:yes:

Sadly Covey is wrong, as that's for Quail and a few other birds.

He can have a Leap, Drove, Down, Husk, Leash, Trace or Trip of hare, which are all listed.

So how about a Barrel of Shooters?

Covey is very often associated with Partidges or 'Bartavelles'.

How about pheasants? a nye if on the ground, a bouquet if in flight.

Makes my rudder ache!

I added a few extra to my original post. I didn't know that Pheasants had a separate name if they are in flight :rolleyes:

I like 'an Unkindness of Ravens'

Anyway, back to the topic.

A 'blast of shooters' perhaps?
