The wait is over......

After what feels a very long and frustrating wait due to the game season and some pretty disaterous outings of late, I finally managed to get most of the tactics right on Saturday and bagged 83 piddies and 2 crows over a strip of chopped maize!! I have been waiting an age for this particular strip to be chopped as it always seems to produce due to its location, an intersection for about 3 or 4 flight lines. Pushed 100's of birds off before setting up at about 8am, along with one of the other guns from the shoot and set ourselves up about 100 yards apart either side of a dog leg in the strip. It was a very slow start, with the other chap pulling in all the birds that came over. But it wasn't long before the turbo flapper and magnet started to pay off and I started getting some interest. From that point on we were busy until 3.30 when we had to pack and get the birds back to the truck along with all the gear, a bit of a trek. As said I picked 83 and shooting partner picked 78. So all in all it was pretty much a spot on day.....legs and kness are still feeling the strain :good:

Well done, how do you rate the Turbo Flapper..??

Cat.

It has been a long time coming so am a very happy bunny!!

Cat - The turbo flapper is a pretty good bit of kit. More realistic rapid flapping motion i.e. the last few beats before a bird lands effect, so really only needs to be used in short bursts. This was only the second outing with the flapper, so will need a few more before I am totally convinced of its worth?! But on this day I think the piddies would have decoyed to grey socks, they just wanted to be in that part of the field!!

Cheers to Cosd as well for the recommendation on the Turbo Flapper, def a good idea with the remote opposed to the timer, but just have to find a way of placing it in easy reach in the hide, lost count of the number of times I chucked it at the weekend reaching for my gun and then having to seacrh for it afterwards!!

Thanks for that, I've just invested in a Turbo Flapper, if the wingbeat is as fast as the promo video it's certainly very realistic, I used to use an old manual flapper many years ago before magnets were on the scene it was very effective.

It'll be good to see how it works in conjunction with the rotary..??

As to what to do with the remote, I'll hang mine on a keyring which also holds a clicker which I always use now to keep a tally of birds downed. I hang the keyring on the hide pole nearest the middle of the hide, works OK for me.

Getting the wings attached can be fiddly the first time, but once on they do not come off, unlike other flappers I have tried!! It should work well in combo with a magnet, it did on Saturday, but would be interested to see if has enough movement on its own to get Mr Pigeons attention?!

Think I will borrow that idea Cat, time to raid the wifes key ring for a spare!!
