Dunkield
Well just under 4 months after I ordered it, my new CZ stock arrived this morning from the States. It looked pretty roughly finished, but that is how is supposed to be, so although it was a bit of a shock initially I got to thinking how I was going to finish it off etc etc. And then I saw.... A bloody crack! :yp: So it is all on hold while I sort it out with company, needless to say I not a very happy bunny. Luckily my new boots from the Sportsman sale arrived at the same time and they are great so that helped a little! Here are some pics anyway Edited May 8, 2006 by stuartp
Dunkield
and the other side, with the chunk out of it.
Axe
Its a shame coz that would look nice when finished, though, I am not sure about the knot. :yp: Will it take another four months for the replacement?
Dunkield
Dunno mate I have mailed them with pictures so I will see what they say. They specialise in 'default guns' Remingtons in other words and only set up for CZ's Tikka's etc when they have enough orders. I either want to return it for a full refund+P&P, or get a massive discount and hang onto it and try and rescue it. I will keep you posted... Axe
I know that minor dents can be got out using water and an iron, but from here that looks way too deep. Cant see the crack, is it around the knot? Think i'd be after a full refund, you'll never be happy with it. :yp:
Dunkield
It's not a s bad as it looks here, I twisted the stock for maximum sympathy from the company :yp: My dad turns wood and cracks like are common to those boys, this would be opened up and have superglue poured in and that would be that... Dunkield
:*) It must be me, I just realised my Tikka came with a cracked stock, before GMK replaced it - see you just can't beat good old fashioned ABS or Fibreglass for gunstocks :yp: Edited March 7, 2006 by stuartp
dunganick
my dads sako 75 has a repair in the stock, when we are at bisley i will show you it. we believe the stock was destined for a higher grade, but after the repair (a piece of wood 3mm x4mm inletted into the front of the cheek piece) it was downgraded to the standard hunter grade. you can hardly notice the repair. what grade wood is that stuartP sorry to hear its damaged. I hope mine dosent come damaged :yp: i thought you wernt having tips and caps on it?
Dunkield
what grade wood is that stuartP sorry to hear its damaged. I hope mine dosent come damaged i thought you wernt having tips and caps on it? There by hangs another tale as they say... Well I went for 'economy' grade just the bare minimum, so there may be a lesson for all of us there :yp: I didn't order caps or tips, and didn't get charged for them - luckily - but still got them as you can see. The only extra I went for was the recoil pad, which I got.
dunganick
if they are anything like Elkridge (which i used) then you need to specify not to have them, as the rosewood tips/caps are free of charge and standard.
Dunkield
Yes they do as well, the guy said 'do you want tips and caps' I said 'no' which to me means no :yp: but that is least of my worries at the moment...
Fisherman Mike
I should say that its not in a stress area and would probably fill up and polish out quite well. If you have the confidence to cut it out and epoxy in a matching piece of timber when finished you would probably never know. Might fit mine if Knot ! *(excuse the pun) :yp: FM. flash
what CZ is it for bye the way flash
Dunkield
FM, I could pour glue into the crack once it has been opened up and it would be fine - I just don't see why I should have to. To me the chunk missing out of the cheek piece is the worst bit, unless I am planning on painting it that can't be filled invisibly.. Flash, Its for 527 .223 Why do wanna buy it? you can have if for 100 quid - would make a nice project for you and the good news is - you don't even won't need an FAC Edited March 8, 2006 by stuartp
flash
i was just wandering if it was for the .243 CZ as my dad may be looking for a stock like that for his rifle, but never mind. i dont need another project as im still planning what to do with thos offcuts you sent me flash
jonno 357
Stuart Thats the disadvantage of buying "blind". You end up with any old **** sent the the post Jonno
Dunkield
Yup, But enjoyable as it may have been, flying to California to select it would have made it an expensive stock
dunganick
how deep is the damage, is it not possible to remove enough material that the crack sits flush? i would be asking for a refund if i was in your shoes, and if they wouldnt give one i wouldnt expect to pay more than £10 for it hope it works out well for you. i'm currently waiting for mine, should be on the door mat in the next 2 weeks. In reality i doubt this.
Dunkield
I am calling them to discuss tonight I will update this tomorrow... edit. They will mail me tomorrow to confirm, but the lady on the phone reckons they will just ship another, as returning this one would be a waste of time. They are inletting 'cee zees' now so it could ship straight away - fingers crossed. . . Edited March 8, 2006 by stuartp

Hunter
I hope you do get a refund.. as you have sanded it all down etc, they may refuse a refund, and give you the liability saying they are all checked and inspected etc before sale. Hope it works out fine
Dunkield
as you have sanded it all down etc, I haven't They just mailed me to say they are shipping a replacement over and this is an economy stock I can keep it as it isn't worth sending it back... Axe
I'm glad they are sorting a replacement out for Stuartp, 2 for 1 aint bad. Can I ask, how much did it cost you as I notice you mention it being economy? I'm thinking of the possibilty of fitting a Thumbhole to my Quad.
