Depends what you want it for, if it's a "working" gun then a bolt action is a bit more reliable and easier to clean/service. Semi-Autos vary in quality and some can be a real pain to strip and clean, not saying there's anything wrond with them as I'm getting a GSG-5 SD but that's just for indoor target and plinking :)

+1 with fruit loop, semis are great for using up old ammo, unless you spend A LOT of money eliminating the clatter, and inaccuracy issues.

If you are culling live animals, then bolt action everytime. When you have your new rf try as many different types of ammo through it that you can easily get, it will favour one or two brands and will be considerably more accurate with those than all the others.

I've had bolt actions in various calibres, and as most of the guys say, if you want a reliable, accurate gun, go for a CZ452 or something like that.

BUT... :oops:

I've now got a Ruger 10/22 semi auto, and it's a lot of fun :yes:

I think the perception with unreliable semi autos is true to a point, but if you find an ammo that cycles the bolt well (Eley subs are superb in mine), is accurate (Again, Eleys are very good), and you can get a good supply of... That's the key.

Remember the likes of Ruger 10/22 are just so easily worked-on. Even for someone like me :blush: . A simple 2 or 3 mods, and it will be improved greatly. :good:

I love my 10/22 for rabbits - it's bomb proof >-> rock-n-roll >-> BUT >=>

but - some ammo has a wax coating that makes the rounds 'gum up' ... esp. the sub-sonic stuff = simples - wipe it before loading the mag. :good:

It's light, short (nice for a vehicle) and if you get the after-marker parts = quiet :good:

A fairly cheap 6 x 42 scope is more than good enough for bunnies if you learn to be quiet ! ! :blush:

I had a ruger 10/22 jammed constantley,kept it clean bought several new mags made no difference bought a bolt action instead :yes:
