Pigeon Pieman
Dear all, as some of you know we added a young Border Collie pup called Jess to our family a few months ago. She soon became the centre of our universe and became the best reason for exercise I've ever known. She was very much a family member in every sense of the word. For protection she was microchipped and had a tattooed number in her ear. Thursday morning, between 1000hrs and 1230hrs someone came to our house and removed the catflap from our back door. They never tried to force the door, only make a hole big enough for Jess to get through (the hole for a catflap is considerably bigger than the flap itself). When I arrived home at around 1245hrs Jess was nowhere to be seen and the catflap parts were strewn around the floor. I phoned the Police and local vets etc and reported her missing. The Police dutifully arrived and took all the details and, whilst here, a woman rang saying she'd seen Jess on the road around 5 miles from our home, across a busy town. I sped across town to find Jess had been hit by a car and killed. The woman has seen her body rather than a living dog. The Police think she was snatched with a view of selling her for breeding but this was impossible due to her tattoo. They think once the people realised this they threw her from the vehicle and consequently she was struck. This afternoon after collecting her body I took her to a field where we used to walk together. There, I laid her to rest under a pair of oak trees where she can watch the sun come up and be sheltered from the cool evening breezes. I shall miss her terribly, Jess has been a wonderful companion and was making wonderful progress in her search dog training. So, not only have I lost a friend, the world has lost an unsung hero of the future. Rest in peace Jess, and watch over us with fond memories, not all mankind is cruel beyond belief. If you own a dog - or even if you don't- challenge everyone you meet or see around your homes, even if they look like a postie. The hurt my family is suffering at present I would hate for you to have to experience too. Pigeon Pieman
Cranfield
Thats a terrible story. Nothing anyone can say, will make the pain go away. There have been reports of dogs stolen in Kent. Sometimes, the owners are contacted and asked to pay a "ransom". The heartache involved, when you lose a pet is horrendous. The people that do this sort of thing are Scum. They can have no feelings, or conscience about anything.

rjimmer
Dog-napping is quite common, especially by the traveller fraternity. A keeper friend of mine had his best springer bitch stolen a few years ago and got the usual phone call to say that his dog was with someone named *****. There are several local travellers people with the nickname mentioned. One of them was very friendly with a well-known field trialer at the time. There is scum at every level of society. MARK 1
PP as you know from my post losing a friend it is just as bad in my opinion as when you lose a relative. mate it was bad enough for my father in law to ask me to take is 17 year springer to be put to sleep , but due to scum you did'nt even have an option. our thought's are with you mate. ps. we got him an 8 week old liver & white bitch pup on saturday for his 60th birthday, it cheered him up no end. there is good thing's that come out of bad except that is for the ****e that create the bad. all the best mate & regards mark. Pigeon Pieman
Dear all, thanks for the kind words. No news on catching the bu**ers yet but hopefully people are more aware of the risks. Why do people these days think you can just take what you want, even when it belongs to someone else? Best wishes to all. Mr & Mrs Pieman & Holly
highdowns hunter
There is an interesting article in this months spoting gun about stolen dogs, If I can remember correctly it said that around 28000 dogs are stolen in the UK each year
