CZ550Kevlar
Blues and Reds down in Kent are still £20 a hundred at the moment, i would have wanted a discount on their seconds.

Blues are seconds so in reality the price he is paying is just average
pegasus bridge
Blues are seconds so in reality the price he is paying is just average do you mean in the sense that the blues were due to go onto the mach2? locally to me hmr rounds had been well above the £100 /500 mark, and i figured the last batch of blue tips i had seemed fine , with no noticeable difference to the remmington gold tips i had been using. i am quite confident the difference in colour will not make a tangible difference... ?? Yes thats what I mean. The v-max were always red tips but the colour of the head makes no difference to the quality of the bullet. Round my way the cheapest I can buy blue tips are £110 per 500, so what you paid for orange tips to me is a good deal. If they were in my area I would of paid that. deputy dog
I need to buy another batch as i have run out at last. There's a little shooting shop just over the road where i work from. And he's selling Blue tips for £10.50 a box or £100 for for 500 round batch. So there's no more 40 miles round trips to Sportsman Guncentre in Newport. So thats another saving of £20 odd in fuel getting there an back. So Happy Days :good: :good: DD
Frenchieboy
I have had "Red Tips" that have in fact looked more orange or brown, even in the same box as the "standard" reds! I wonder if the sunlight might be able to discolour them sometimes, but there wasn't a scrap of difference in the accuracy and I didn't have a single rabbit complain that I had used the wrong colour of tip on the bullet that I shot it with! I do find that in my rifle there is a very slight difference in POI if I swap from Red Tips to Blue Tips even though there should not be - But it might be psycological or my lousy shooting that does that anyway! I normally pay a straight £10 per box when I have to buy any, which I need to go out and do today!
NorfolkPoacher
Just recently stocked up on my .17 rounds payed £95 for 500. They are mostly orange like the above post says the dye is to blame. It's purely cosmetic though still well within 1" at 100 yards. I'm not sure the bunnies I shot can tel the difference between red and orange travelling at 2500fps!! Lol

I really don't think there is any "noticable" difference between them, and I think rabbits and crows are colour blind anyway, they certainly are after I have hit them with a 17gr Hornady V-Max! Dekers
I have always favoured Hornady and the Reds, then the Blue turned up and they are fine, I have no issues with colour, the only problem round my way is finding a dealer at £95-£100 per 500! :(

30-6
I have read (on varmint al's) I think, that Hornady and Remmington are all EXACTLY the same components apart from colour. All made side by side in the same factory.
