Ryan gun
What is the best choke for pigeon and rabbit shooting at 30 yds with a decent pattern
twitchynik
What carts you using? That will have as much an affect as the choke. Some carts will pattern better than others through the same choke. Pigeon at 30yards with 1/4 choke is perfectly achievable with a decent cart (i.e. 30/32g of 6) and you're putting the lead in the right place. Worked for me yesterday. Eventually Some people say they'll want to use a tighter choke as they'll want to get a good clean kill if they're on target - more lead in the kill zone. Probably an idea to pattern test your gun with your chokes and your carts if you want to find out the best combination

stu nesling
1/4 choke, some carts will pattern tighter than others.thats not a problem.even the loose ones will be ok in 1/4. plus you wont spoil the meat on a close bird. was using 1/2 on sat,but changed to 1/4 as the birds were sometime within 20yds and i wanted to have something left!!. wymberley
Hi, For the smaller target, pigeon, 1oz of No 7. For the rabbit, 1 1/16 oz of No6, both through a TC rated pattern producing barrel. One generally not recognised advantage about the TC choke should you be in a position to use it is that it is normally the only degree of choke whereby the pattern density is evenly spread and effective throughout the full 30" pattern testing circle. diggerl85
My best combo in my 686s 28'' has turned out to be skeet and 1/4 30 gram 6 clear pigeon and paceing out 30 to 35 yds from hide on some kills had 37 for 55 shots today it works for me
welshwarrior
I have a tight Skeet (labeled IMP CYL) and 1/4 that works well in my 682.
mpk
1/2 as that's what my gun is fixed at not that I ever hit many pigeons Edited March 20, 2011 by mpk

caeser
I have 1/4 in the bottom barrel and 1/2 in the top. Reason:- They are the two most open chokes that came with the gun. I use them for everything, no matter what the distance. I wouldn't get too hung up on the choke thing. You either hit the bird or you don't, also you don't know how far away its going to be anyway. stu nesling
I wouldn't get too hung up on the choke thing. damn right that man!.i use a semi ...so 1/4. but 1/4+1/2 is perfect for u/o+sbs. just enjoy the shooting. good carts so no problems at all there
fuzrat
1/4 I often think people tend to over-choke and handicap themselves with too tight a pattern. Fuzrat
