FalconFN
I use Tesco pet insurance, not designed for working dogs but, as I'm not working her yet and when I do it will just be rough shooting, it will be fine for me. It's good value at only £5.50 per month.
sixhills 69
Tesco's for me covered for £4000 per injury i asked if they were anything in the terms that said anything about working dogs and they asked if she was a gaurd dog so as the answers no they are happy to take her on. as with PDSA before but they could'nt get the act together. mpk
I had a look at basc, from what I saw they use pet plan and a price per month was nearly £50. Basc are just given a donation but the policy is run by pet plan. I think I'm going to go with tesco. I have a friend that used to sell dog insurance so I will have a chat with them and keep you posted Edited April 17, 2011 by mpk

apache
In this case cheapest is not usually the best. Have no end of problems with budget policies. Make your the policy covers the dog for life and doesn't exclude a condition after a year. Make sure you have a limit per condition of £5000 as a serious fracture could cost that or more. stokie
We are with Morethan £7000 per claim continued treatment for any illness . Over the years I have claimed much more than I have paid and there has never been an problem . Think it's £20 per month with £70 excess . Remember cheap isn't always best

al4x
Think it's £20 per month with £70 excess . Remember cheap isn't always best that is cheap Calling your dog a working dog stops you using a lot of insurers however if its recreational shooting it doesn't fit the proper category of working dog where you derive an income from its use. Its highly unlikely to get questioned by anyone as the vet is only interested in being paid and most accidents out shooting could have happened on a walk. Mine is with pet plan never claimed and still has gone up from £14 a month to £26 in 3 years which to me is making it marginal having it. That said petplan seem to be one of the better ones with carrying on cover and paying out fast so I'll probably stay as long as it doesn't get too much more
silver pigeon 3
Both my dogs are with pet plan and the puppy when it arrives will also be insured with them. I have just made another claim after my lurcher chased a rabbit into some brambles and came out with the rabbit + a thorn firmly embedded in her eye ball :o . Ended up being sent from my vets to a Eye specialist who removed the thorn, back to my vets today to hopefully be signed off, the invoice is likely to top £1000 when it is all sorted. In my opinion insurance is a must as a grand isn't to easy to find.
