First fox with the .17 Rem

Hi guys

I had a nice shoot this evening which was started off by taking 2 magpies with the 17 Rem whilst on the way to the set-up point. I took along the farmers son as I often do and I was ready for action with the 6.5x47 and the .17 Rem hoping for a couple of opportunities of longer shots on vermin. After waiting an hour a few jackdaws presented themselves but out a little further than I had hoped especially given the 10-20mph wind. I used the Rem as I needed the safer round due to horses in the field behind but would have much preferred to use the 6.5mm for the ballistics. Missing the Jackdaw just downwind I took up the rifle and walked the 50yds back to the truck. Just before i got back to the truck something caught my eye on the bank 150yds away. It was a fox sniffing around the rabbit holes. I immediately crouched and moved forward into position for the shot. The first spot where I thought I may get the shot was slightly in danger of catching the short crop so I began to crawl forwards. When I had gained the extra height of the 10yds further forward the fox had moved undisturbed to behind a bush. I waited as I knew it would re-appear soon. The whisper came from behind that it had began to make its way up the fence line. I didn't want to take the shot through the wire so I waited. It broke away from the fence and almost stopped so I made a bark sound which enticed it to look round but before I could slip the trigger it moved off again. This time I knew I had to be louder and more obvious so I made another louder bark which stopped it and turned broadside at which point I aimed just behind its shoulder to account for the FV side wind and sent the 25g Vmax into its heart/lung area and it collapsed on the spot. Very satisfying shot in the bright sunshine. I ranged it afterwards (knowing it was around 200yds) at 178yds.

This Rem is such as versatile calibre.
