docholiday
Well, late start after late night saw me at the pig farm for 11 AM , not many crows about but it was overcast and rain in the air, decided where to set up and used my magnet with a couple of crows on, first half hour was great with 5 in the bag, then went quiet, usually loads of crows but today it wasnt happening, ended up with 25 crows, i pigeon and a :yes:squirrel who very stupidly came down from the woods to see what all the fuss was about. Anyway as I am packing up the farm manager came over and asked if he could take some of the crows ? I thought, anyway transpires lady who has a farm down the road is fed up with the crows, she grows cereal and it seems they are causing trouble over there, wanted the crows to hang up as a deterrent, she is blaming the pig farm for attracting them, Oh I said, I could help, I would be happy to go and shoot them for her. That would be great says pig man would help us with her complaints. So ended up with a new farm and if it is cereal you just know its going to be a hot pigeon magnet as well as Crows, so thats why all the birds arnt in the photo !!!! :) :D :good: :good: Edited June 20, 2011 by docholiday

steve_b_wales
Nice shooting Doc. I have found that a rota on Crows is not so good, but a flapper is excellent. You may have read that I did not go to the gamefair, owing to the terrible weather/ground conditions. Steve.

Spoke to Dad in Barry and he said it was pretty bad, shame for the organisers and my floaters !!! agree took the magnet down after an hour or so, still at least it was something to try. ah well will keep looking Edited June 19, 2011 by docholiday
Woodcock Magnet
Weldone Docholiday, good shooting and congrat's on finding more shooting for yourself (free, I hope) But, I am always supprised tho; when I hear of shooting 'Crows' time and time again, and it's something I'm not used too in the Midlands! A Crow to me is, a Carrion Crow or what we call the Black Crow which in deed is a Crow and it's numbers are usually seen in it's, ones or two's at thier best on the day flighting in a direct flight path from A to B. But for me to hear, we went,'Crow' shooting and got say 20+ birds or whatever just say's that they are shooting,'Rook's' which are to me a completley different bird, all be it, they are all Corvids. There's an old saying that was told to me by my peers when I was a young boy and it goes like this, 'that when you see a Rook on it's own it's a Crow' and if you see, 'lots of Crows together thier Rooks', and it's stuck with me for all those years, funny aye, but there you are!!! so when I hear of 'crow' shooting en-mass, I think, look at the ,'Bill' in the photo's, ya there, 'Rook' shooting alright. No offence intended, just an old observation, thats all. Warm Barrels' Wiz. :hmm:

I shoot mainly Crows,as Rooks are few and far between on my permissions. I have seen, and shot at, flocks of up to 200 Crows. My best, so far, was many years ago when I shot 128 Crows. I also get mixed flocks of Crows/Jackdaws. Steve.
