Frank
I use Parker Hale rangoon oil, had the same tin for years, does the job for me.
paulos
bisley gun oils pretty good, for my auto i use browning legia spray to get in all the nooks n' crannies. be careful with wd40, itl end up making the rib fall off!
arjimlad
I have always used Parker Hale Express Oil for general lubrication and rust prevention, and Young's 303 for cleaning the shotgun. No probs. 303 cleans up grubby barrels on the outside as well.
Axe
Do you guys use different oils for your rifles? My main concern is rust prevention.
the last engineer
keep the wd40 away from the guns, may sound soft but i use 3 in 1 for a lot of lubrication of guns, very light viscosity and little required , another is Starret tool and instument oil. Lord Geordie
WD40 used for a long period of time can thin your blueing mind Has happened to a mates Shotty he used WD40 for years to wipe down after a day out and the blueing on his has thinned down. My rifles have been fine using 3 in 1 and a rag LG
Frank
I use WD 40 to clean inside the bore of the shot gun, but never outside I have a semi-auto shotty. Semi's. only need little oil, not excessive ammounts. Axe, get yourself a good gun oil, like mentioned above and it will do the job mate, if used sparingly. Devilishdave
The last engineer is on the money keep wd 40 away from your guns it evaperates and can leave your gun unprotected as well as other undesierable results (it is bloody good for what its suposed to be used for) Us a dedicated gun oil or 3in1 Dave
dunganick
i used to use the 3 in 1, but got fed up with it rubbing off so easily, more recently i have started using the beretta oil (came with my dads 391 teknys), i have used this for my lanber's chambers to prevent the rusting (on advice from TLE) this has worked 100% this oil is great, it stops the rust, dosent sweat up like 3 in 1 does and seems to stay there for ages. i have now started using this for everything. Keep it simple, no need to go using different oils for different parts of the guns or different guns. they all basically do the same job, 3 in 1 works fine if you dont mind re applying it after every single outing. Snotty
I'm using Ambersil 40+, it's one of many products that actually do what people hope WD40 will do
flytie
Axe, A gunsmith once told me that oil in the action of a shotgun kept him in business, it thickens and clogs over time and acts as a grinding paste. He then used WD40 to clean it off!! I only use it internally if my gun has had a soaking, I take the action out of the woodwork and spray it (the action) liberally with WD40. After the action has dried out some very light gun oil used very, very sparingly on the moving parts does the job. I use the Beretta oil at the moment because it came with my new gun but before that always used Young's 303. REgards, flytie.
chewyjack.22
Did'nt know that about wd40, i only use it to clean the inside of my shottie's barrels anyway, napier gun oil on the outside same with the rifle, the napier oil has vp 90 corrosion inhibitor
lanber1088
Axe you have a .17hmr what do you use to clean the barrel, i use parker-hale 009 nitro solvent which cleans the copper off then Hoppes No -9- solvent which prevents rust. A small amount of express gun oil for the rest.
