ozzy518
Our rape is coming down as I type. Peas will be coming in around August. Better stock up on some cartridges I think.
tricklett
about two weeks away until we get out on the rape, but barley around us is just starting to be harvested, let the long awaited fun begin, good luck everybody
yickdaz
they don,t swath the rape anymore round us not seen any done for years, its normally just cut straight into the combine around end of july.
Mightymariner
I don't have much experience shooting over cut rape. Some has been swathed on my land, so how do you go about shooting it successfully? The swathes look huge to me and I would imagine the farm won't be too happy if I start disturbing them..or is it best when lifted and just the stubble is best? Most of my farmers are very keen on me shooting over the swathed rape thats why they have been calling me all day saying there swathing . As for shooting over it i use the rotary as my main form of attack with just a few decoys put on the rows . When i get to the field i make a small walk through gap in say the first 6 rows so then i dont keep knocking the seed out when picking up the birds have to say never had a problem with any of the farms i get swathed rape on which oddly has gone up ,a few years back just had 1 farm that swathed now have over 6 farms swath

PhilR
My farmer doesn't swathe his rape, he's spraying it starting tomorrow and is going to be combining in about a fortnight. Looking forward to some happy days

Going out tomorrow. Now you have said that the keeper asked me to keep an eye on some swathed rape as the rest has just been sprayed and this is the only field swathed at present. Did see a few on the wires. Will have a look tomorrow. Saw a lot more on some sprayed rape or linseed, not sure which as they lifted off before I could see with my binos!
