Maldwyn
Have just had the reminder that both Shotgun and Firearm Licence runs out end of next month so I have just spent the evening filling in the forms. Now it's just occurred to me that when I applied 5 years ago for the .243 I was able to demonstrate good reason and had landowners permnission to use it for both fox and deer. However in the last five years, I've not continued with the deerstalking club where I was once a member. Although I have local permissions to shoot foxes with the .243, deer permissions in my part Wales are as rare as hens teeth and my deerstalking relies on buying the the odd stalking outing up north. Therefore when it comes to completing the landowner permission forms, I'm stuck for naming land that has deer on it. If I don't provide named land permission with deer on it, will the Licencing Dept revoke my use of .243 for deer and insist it's foxes only or are they likely to think that as it's a renewal, open ticket on trust for deer and foxes? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
stokie
Staffs won't give 243 for fox only . As it's a deer calibre that you are allowed to shoot fox with My stalking is all paid for so I just booked another stalk and got the keeper to write me a letter to back up my good reason
al4x
yep just say you will be doing paid stalking as well. As its a current gun and you still have fox on it its very hard for them to turn round and say its not suitable when you've been using it for years. kent
Be safe book a day for after your renewal date and put the reciept for it in as good reason for Deer.
Breastman
Be safe book a day for after your renewal date and put the reciept for it in as good reason for Deer. If you don't have a permission with deer on its highly likely you will need to show evidence of the 'good reason' to keep deer on your ticket. Some forces insist on more than 1 booking too. Vermincinerator
I am in the middle of renewing but have been shooting on an open ticket for the past three years, however i was not aware that when i nominated my main piece of land that i shoot on, that that piece of land had to be passed for the largest calibre i shoot. None of my 5 permissions are passed, so when the FEO turned up at my nominated land to do a land check my landowner told him to clear off, although i have permission to shoot deer fox and all vermin etc.... he did not want the intrusion of a land check. This left me with the situation of having all my rifles changed to a target shooting only condition! Luckily i persuaded one of my other landowners to submit to a land check in the hope that it will be cleared for my 257. I am now just awaiting the outcome, so its not all plain sailing once you have an open ticket and that open condition is only for the life of that current FAC. Ian. I thought that if you have an open ticket it was up to you to make sure the land was safe to shoot over and that you did not need to have the land inspected by the FEO ? al4x
you still have to have a base permission and in this case it seems they want it suitable to use all your guns on.
Colster
you still have to have a base permission and in this case it seems they want it suitable to use all your guns on. Indeed, a mate of mine has this situation at the moment, if he wants his new FAC to have a condition for Deer then he needs to supply a written permission slip for land that would be passed for his deer rifle (.243). It won't be an issue for him as we both shoot a piece of land that was also my primary piece when I first applied and had a closed cert, so I had the land survey done... cleared up to .
