.philmypower.
Hi you need to twist the tick anti clockwise making sure you remove the whole head as this will cause infection. Once you have the tick make sure you kill it don't just put it in the bin. I would recommend using a leather man or whatever you have access to as some ticks carry something and if you get bitten can put you in a wheelchair so take them seriously. You can get a proper tick removing tool for under £5 but use what you can for now.

apache
I would never twist them off. I have seen many dogs over the years where people have cocked up removing ticks. If you leave head parts behind or squeeze 'tick juice' back into the dog sometimes you end up with chronic inflammation that will never resolve and has to be removed surgically. With nothing at hand you can smother vaseline around the base and suffocate the tick, it should lift off after a day or so. Go to the Vet and get some Frontline to kill the tick AND an O tom tick remover. Less than a fiver and every dog owner should have one. They get below the tick to that the mouth parts are removed properly. Do it right or leave it alone until you can get the proper things on Monday. It costs you a lot more money if you mess this up. J@mes
I was about to ask if you recommend the O'tom tick remover, but you've answered it already. Used it to remove 7 or 8 ticks from our mutt last year when we were camping in the new forest. Never had any issues, all ticks came out fine

kent
Ok, how do you remove a tick from a dog who knows your after one? Belly rubs are not an issue till he gets a tick then its practically impossible to keep the daft mutt still for more than a nano second

Totsy
Hi, I apply pink nail vanish to the tick. It dorps of after 2 days but it dies much sooner than that, vanish stops them breathing. I use the colour becasue it reminds me to keep chcking if it is there and can sometimes see it if it has fallen off around the home. I dont know why but one of my springers picks them up, the other doesn't. Ta,
Gutty Boots
Get the O'Tom Tick Twister, you'll never need to worry about breaking the tick during removal, it's very simple to use, cheap as chips. I've used them to remove ticks from myself, so much easier & safer than tweezers.
FalconFN
The last ones I removed by dropping a little pure alcohol on them massaging the tick in a circular motion for 30 seconds, I then gently pulled it and it came off with no bother. Boromir
Do not whatever cover and sufficate the tick all that does is make it regurgitate the blood which now could be infected back into the dog. The only way to get them of safely is tweezers or otom.
Siberian Tiger
Have to add that Tom O tick is the only way for me. Used other methods over the years and found this to be the quickest and easiest way to remove the little critters!
