pegasus bridge
the only way to settle this would be a 300 yard hmr duel at dawn, with the winner getting to provide the young lady referenced with some tuition on tight chokes and heavy loads Edited July 14, 2011 by pegasus bridge
Suffolk52
and there you see why buying range finders from ebay is a bad thing Buying them from E bay is OK, having them set on feet and claiming it was yards is where it all falls down. Suffolk52
Demonwolf, It has nothing to do with being good. It is more about achieving the impossible 10 out of 11 times. Ask Zapp, Wookie or Pavman about shooting an HMR at 300 yards. Then come and tell us what they said.
yds
I know non of you here, but am familiar with all rifles and shotguns. In perfect conditions a hmr CAN shoot at 300yrds. Last months sporting rifle did a very good special report on said topic and proved ballistics and terminal performance. I don't want dragging into this petty squabble but facts are facts. It will fall on its face when compared to ANY c/f rifle but it can do the job if conditions are right. Wheather you should is not for me to say. I see as part of my job well over 100 clients a year who's abilities all vary. Some can shoot some can't. Good tackle is the starting place then plenty of practice. But to call someone a liar without being there is a bold statement and there really is no need, let people make up there own minds. regards YDS. Suffolk52
Maybe you would like to like to take up the challenge then YDS. Of course the round will shoot out to 300 yards, but as it has been PROVED it is hard enough to get the shot on a A4 piece of paper let alone hit a rabbit. yds
I may be wrong but the test in S.R. were all into a 4 inch circle.(clay pigeon) Not MOA but quite good. Like I said its not for me to say if you should. I would take my .222mag, 22250, 6.5x55 or 7mm rem mag personally. My 22250 shoots under an inch at 200m's and it is topped with a 6-24x56 zeiss fl and bdc turrets. My HMR is good to about 140m's I have stretched it to beyond 200m's but well short of 300. I would certinally take any challage you decide on and have a large quarry where 500m's is ok so come on down/up.

You should have a little look on youtube and see what you can find in the way of 300 yard HMR shooting. You might just surprise yourself. Search for dick2478 and check out his videos. He's quite a fan of the .
Scully
Search for dick2478 and check out his videos. Impressive...off a bipod with neither elbow supported, and a breeze at butts and target. It would be interesting to see the results from a benchrest. I think in the perfect conditions 'no wind' and off a bench the .17 could maybe squeeze below three inch groups.
al4x
I have to say at 300 yards I'd be lucky to hit a canada goose with mine let alone a rabbit

SAVAGE HMR
so is it challenge accepted EE Is this a challenge to hit a coke can or similar sized target at 300 yards with the HMR? I quite fancy giving it a go, I might even buy a real can of Coke for the occasion. Just need to wait for the wind and rain to bu@@er off! SAVAGE HMR
Might as well, you can drink it afterwards That all depends on whether or not the .17 HMR blows the contents of the can all over my permission like I think it will. Or if the sceptics are right, the can might have a mild dent and the contents will be intact. I'd be happy either way, I either get a drink for all my hard work and walking back and fourth. Or I get the satisfaction of posting a new topic with photos and video of myself blowing up a can on Coke with the hummer at 300 yards. Bazooka Joe
Be interesting at this Rifle do next May if there's a special HMR 17 300yd comp....it'll either prove or dispel the myth, that is if there is a one So what do you reckon coke can side on at 300yd, one shot, cold bore... Edited July 17, 2011 by Bazooka Joe
Zaiyn
A 300 yard coke can challenge could be an annual event. Extend the competition to .22RF as well and make it interesting though Edited July 16, 2011 by Zaiyn
