243 loads for tikka?

Recommended Posts

Hello all I've just bought a tikka t3 laminate stainless and I'm looking for what recipe to use. I have a load of privi 100grn soft points but are tight on the downstroke of bolt. ? Gutted as I've got about 100. I will be looking for around 75 grn ballistic tips mainly for fox but I intend to be out quite often for roe in the very near future. I'm not looking for exact target placement but sub inch groups or as near as. I have the option to possibly get some made using varget and was thinking of 38.5 grains?

I would particularly like to hear what people use in the same gun if possible. Ps Ive not shot it yet as still looking for scope & rings just wanted to get a head start thanks in advance of any replies

You should be able to sell the ppu ammunition on easy enough, face to face and add to license.

I use 87gr and 100gr but homeloads, know a couple of people who homeload for others but its a not recommended, whats good for one gun could be disaster in another so best avoided, you dont want to be the result of someones elses mistake if the unthinkable should happen.

The only thing i would say about shooting that lighter bullet is ensure they are not too fast for the barrell, I brought some 40grn ballistic tip for my 22-250 which travel around 4300 fps and were great up to 100 yards, however over 100 yards they began to tumble and hit all over the place to which i later was told was due to my barrel twist rate was too slow

I use 37grains Varget for my 75 grain v-max home loads and achieve pretty good results. Here is a 3 shot group @ 100yds from my Tikka M595. This load shoots well in mine but it may not in yours. :good:

pretty much the same deal here, I use 37 grains of varget with 85 grn sierra soft points on deer and if I use 38 grains with 75grn vmax it shoots the same POI at 100 yards both are very accurate.

I'd go soft points for deer rather than Vmax if you want to use Hornady Vmax I do know where to get them still.

Don't develop a 75 grn v-max load a route to knowere they are now discontinued. Try 70 grn Nosler b/tip. Neither of these is a good deer bullet BTW.

Liar

Gary, We are still making the 6mm 75gr V-Max, but we are not making this with the Moly coating anymore. We hope this answers your question. Thank you. Hornady Sales Teamphone 1-800-338-3220

I have just started loading for 243 as well (actuall Mosa's old Parker Hale!!)

in scouring the forums and web I have gone for two bullet choices.

87gn and 100gn (I know that I will be told that the 100 will not work unless I have a 1:8 but it shot a box of Sako factory 100gn at 135yds with no problem at all and the target I will be using them on will never be over 200yds!)

I went with VV N160 for two reasons.

I can use it on my .270 and therefore only buy one type of powder

and I was told it was the best all round powder for the 87-100gn bullets.

not had a chance to use it in anger but I plan to work up to about

41gn N160 for the 87gn and the 100gn

this is 1+gn short of the max for the 87gn and a little less that 1gn for the 100gn from the VV data

I have some N165 as well which seems to give better velocities for the 100gn which may help me use it up!
