Iv tried a 25 round butler creek mag a hot lips!!!! I dont know why they sell them as the gun struggles to shoot 5 rounds with out a jam. Shoots ok with standard Ruger mag though. welshwarrior Posted July 17, 2011 Report Share Posted July 17, 2011 I have one added a CST auto bolt release, I only use Ruger 10 shot mags. They need a few round throw them to loosen them up a bit. Like a lot of guns I found it preferred certain ammo especially if I was fun plinking with a large capacity mag! I settled on either stingers or mini mags and that seemed to work faultlessly! Better than a lot of the GSG and Heckler & Koch clones floating around our club! I made a few of the changes people have suggested above but it didnt improve the gun that much as far as I was concerned for range plinking! Accuracy was nothing like my bolt action Annie! Iv replaced the god awful, short, light and cheap feeling plastic stock for a bog standard beech one. Its improved the feel of the gun no end. Many people get the cheapest 10/22 they can, throw most of it away and spend silly money of the vast range of aftermarket parts available. Never did understand why! I wanted a faster back up shot, We must have all watched a bunny drop after a seemingly good shot only to stagger to its feet and kick down a hole. You should have brought one already worked over by the lads at NWCP or RFD, and then drop it in a Hogue stock. safetyfirst Posted July 26, 2011 Report Share Posted July 26, 2011 Great guns but the latest version had a lot of the original metal parts made our of polymer instead (it's good enough for glocks ec....). An easy upgrade it the extended mag release and auto bolt release, fifteen quid or less on ebay, the bolt release you can actually do yourself with a dremel if you're so inclined, it's pretty easy. As for what you upgrade on it, depends on what you want out of it, trigger pull can be greatly eased with a bit of manual work on the internal parts, polishing etc, a bigger trigger shoe will help perceived pull and a little set screw installed in the trigger guard will help overtravel. They are a brilliant project gun, probably the best out there in fact in terms of the sheer quantity of bits you can get for them in the uk, they're like the british AR15 in many ways, lots of toys to get for them. It's also a very good gun to learn some gunsmithing on but always be careful to function test at every stage if you're going to be altering any of the internal parts. If anything breaks, getting new bits is dead easy. Try los of different ammo to see what works best, in just about every semi I've had, I've tried ten kinds then ended up with cci minimags as the most reliable usually with top 3 out of ten grouping. I have an older 10/22 that I've done all sorts of litte bits and bobs to internally, for free (aside from a couple of pins I bought) and I've stuck it in a nordic components ar receiver kit with a magpul stock on the back, magpul pistol grip and a railed forend for an angled forgrip, red dot on top. It's completely over the top and unbelievable fun to shoot (I shoot steel plate, practical rifle etc) The magpul stuff was chinese knockoff (aside form the pistol grip which is genuine) and my total spend so far is about £480, a third of the cost of a similar ar15-22 type rifle with all the official dangly bits on it. Have fun with yours, you can turn it into anything from an ar15, purple laminate target gun, wooden steyr aug, bullpup plinker, folding stocks, bull barrels etc etc etc.. My 10/22 was filthy when I bought it, some cleaning and buffing of internal parts with a dremel and at the last count it's on over 1000 cci minimags with 1 fail to feed from a new ruger bx25 mag.
