Frenchieboy
Not a very good quality video as I didn't have time to put the camcorder on the tripod and I zoomed in a bit too much. Anyway, I spotted this little chap just as I was pulling up at one of my permissions today at lunchtime. From where I was standing the owl looked to be about 8 to 9 inches tall and was a grey colour. I always thought that Little Owls were more a brown colour but this one was mainly grey in colour. I suspect that it could be a juvenile Little Owl which could explain why it was flying about at lunch time but I am not too sure. Anyone got any suggestions. poontang
Difficult to tell from the video, but I reckon you're right with it being a Little Owl. They're mainly grey in colour and will often hunt during the day http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/l/littleowl/index.aspx

ayrshiretaxidermy
Its all in the eyes lol. Yellow - Little Owls, Short Eared Owls etc, hunt during daytime. Orannge - Long Eared, Eagle Owl etc, Dawn and Dusk. Black/Dark Brown, Barn, Tawny etc, Nightime hunters.
Greenhunter
Short-eared owl was my first thought. It looked to me that, just as the zoom gets as close as it is going to and before the 'shakes' really start, there are what looks like two 'ears'. It could easily be the background I suppose. The colour seems wrong for a little owl as well. A guesstimate of the size would help. Should be fairly obvious with the Little Owl being so much smaller.
