bakerboy
I need to have a go at this! Are there any parts of them that you dont eat or are they all good? Cheers Eat the tails and the claws. Northern europeans eat what they call Crayfish Butter which is the substance between the head and lower part of the body, but it is not for me. bakerboy
I went out Crayfishing with my grandson today, to Stanstead Abbotts in Herts near to Harlow and Ware, what a day ! In 1 hour we caught 135 Crayfish weighing in at 8 kilo's  , we had to stop because we ran out of buckets etc to keep them in. This beat our previous record of 108 in 1 hour, but this time we set ourselves a new record, in 1 of the 4 nets we were using we lifted 14 in 1 lift.We also lost another 30+ that fell out of the side or were hanging under the nets, I will post the picture tomorrow. My grandson who is about to become a PW member "handlebar2" was over the moon . Having caught the Crayfish and taken them home Tim went off for his first Clay Pigeon shooting lesson, the details on this will be posted in Off topic. Cosd
Well done Phil, I don't know anything about crayfish or cray fishing, but that looks like one hell of a catch. Are they as good as the other shell fish to eat? Cos
Lampwick
Traps require a permit. Drop nets do not. I think the trap part is a bit of a grey area. I think you will find you need a permit from the EA if you are going to catch them with nets/traps. At the moment they are free to apply for, just google Environment Agency and search for crayfish permits. Shippy

Guest HandleBar
I hope Tim will leave them at your house as I think extra pets aren't needed what with the dog, 2 cats, 4 kittens, 12 chickens, 6 gerbils, 1 hamster and the three kids!! Alycidon
How do you eat them, like big prawns presumably. A
bakerboy
How do you eat them, like big prawns presumably. A Purge them in clean water over night, then drop them into boiling water for a few minutes, remember to keep th e water boiling. If they are big enough you can eat the claws as well as the tail. The meat can be used in Salads, Sandwiches, Curries and Pasta's, and much more if you have a mind to.
