snipe
Hi, after some advice on cleaning an extrema please. I hear that you shouldn't oil it too much as that can clog the system, so to speak. However, at the weekend, the gun wasn't recycling as well as it should, so would like to know what long standing extrema owners have to say please and how they go about it. Thanks, Snipe. P~MX
it's recommended that you should use a 'Dry Lube' spray on a semi auto, I use Hoppes on mine Edited August 22, 2011 by P~MX

Do you think any dry lube would do it? I have found a load for use on motorbikes. Snipe.
mickmep
i would give it a proper clean to start with. make sure gas ports are clean and piston as well. i use spray brake cleaner for the piston every 6 months or so to get is really clean. i mainly shoot semi autos and do the same with all mine. clean it and for gas piston 1 drop of oil and wipe that all round the piston to give a film coating. for the action bars and bolt where it runs inside the receiver i use beretta white grease, just a miniscule amount, and then a drop of oil added and rubbed in. some may disagree but this works for me, bearing in mind i've just used oil in the past and found if the guns are stored for a while if you are using just oil it will run off the moving parts and leave them dry, this doesnt happen with the white grease. first port of call would be your gas ports though. i clean mine with a pipe cleaner soaked on brake cleaner. Peathag
I wouldn't use a dry lube and it is not recommended in any owners manuals that I have read. Just give it a thorough clean and degrease and put it away with a light oiling and what you will find like Mickmep stated that the oil will run away whilst the gun is stored and it will need a little more added when you take it out. But be careful it only needs a smidgeon - if you over oil it the dirt will stick to the oil and slow the mechanism down and cause problems. snipe
Great stuff, thanks a lot gents. Sound advise there. I just found it a bit sticky at the weekend. Also, the plug that forces the cartridges down the magazine was a bit dry and was sometimes sticking, so need to get that oiled up as well I think. Just need to use a light hand I think. Snipe. snipe
Ok, followed the video above, and there were some differences when it came to the Extrema - namely, getting the bolt handle out, which is a different mechanism. To be honest I was amazed at the amount of build up inside, and the amount of dust etc. that has built up around the trigger mechanism. I gave it a great service and would highly recommend that any extrema user do the same, as it certainly feels a lot smoother operating now that is for sure. I really look after my gear and clean my guns well, but I was still amazed at what had built up. Definitely worth spending half an hour on before the wildfowling gets under way. I came across this, which proved to be invaluable in the whole dismantling process: http://berettausa.custhelp.com/ci/fattach/get/18677/ I've got the Extrema1 and it worked the same. Snipe. Kes
After a good number of years cleaning the Henry and Tam way, my extrema1 also works perfectly. Never had it to bits - might have a go now tho, thanks to the 'how to do it' guides. Be just my luck to find a few bits over.
