Outlander
How long does it take after scarers/bangers are turned off before pigeons return to normal on a field?. And also if they have been used on a field do pigeons scare easily when shooting starts? Cheers Outlander.

unapalomablanca
When pigeons are interested they stay around a field and keep coming back, the bang is just a temporary interuption for them. If there is plenty of bird 'traffic' and they come to the decoys then they tend to keep coming and thats how you get the numbers. I used to think that once you fired the gun it would be ages before you saw another bird but the opposite is true. I have had spells of constant shooting more or less, when the birds just keep coming. I dont bother shooting anymore unless there is traffic, flightlines, or obvious feeding going on. Just look for fields with this criteria or you will waste hours and end up hating it. Edited September 21, 2011 by unapalomablanca
TJ91
They just sit opposite side of field and do s circle when gas banger goes off then drop back in. I have shot a good bag on 70acre field that had a banger in action on it
Cranfield
As has been said, they can often take no notice of the banger at all. I have noticed in the last few years Farmers are starting to use multiple shot gas bangers, which fire 2 or 3 shots within about 5-10 seconds. This is supposed to unsettle the pigeons more than the single shot. It still doesn't seem to be that effective.

Bit off topic, but I wonder how many farmers are paying for gas guns yet turning down free regular guns on there land?? just a thought atb Jim

Harnser
The old maestro Archie coats used to say ,"if the birds haven't returned with in 20 minutes then you should move " Harnser .

They really dont seem to bothered by them from what i have seen
