Wildfowler12
Last year I managed to turn the barrel on my beretta s/a brown after a short trip on the marsh. I got them re-blued and decided I won't be making that mistake again. So, Ive just picked up a Benelli Supernova. About 10weeks old and already, after one trip on the marsh, the barrel is full of surface rust!!! I'm well and truly ****** off considering it's supposed to be 'anti rust' coated. Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to stop this happening. The gun is well oiled before I go on the marsh and thoroughly cleaned when I'm back, but it would seem an hour in the bag on the way home is enough to do the damage. TJ91
I always take to pieces, dry and spray with oil before the trip home. And I don't put in the slip.
DOLLSEYES
You should of bought my Beretta off me when you had your chance.Max4 coating will never rust.
Blunderbuss
If the slip is wet, or even damp that's probably what's doing it.
Wildfowler12
Surely somebody in the north west can dip the barrel, I only want a black finish though. Any ideas?
TJ91
Just spray it Matt black if its just a fowling tool
Wildfowler12
Just spray it Matt black if its just a fowling tool Might sound daft, but is it that simple? What paint should I be using?
TJ91
I did my old webly s/a with some 'simoniz' Matt black spray EBay do rattle cans for a few quid Did the job for me. Didn't look great but it was a marsh/hide gun...a tool!

TJ91
Not quite. I jus gave it a quik rub with wire wool and sprayed over it when rust showed. 1 rattle can will do plenty of coats. That exhaust heat spray might be better as its suppose to prevent rust.
eddoakley
Powder coat is the way! I have done loads of barrels and my local only charges me £10! If you do manage to chip or scratch it you can get it sand blasted off and done again. Not the best pics but you get the idea. TJ91
reason I went for the Matt black was....cheap and no shine! I am sure there will be plenty of alternatives.
Wildfowler12
Or even hammerite? I just want a shine free (hard to rust) finish.
TJ91
Yes hammerite would be a good idea. Just abit more expensive. Jus make sure you treat it before you paint or the rust will come back through no matter what you put on it

Alanl50
If you are going the "powder coat" option make sure they use full polyester powder which is for external use. Alan

krugerandsmith
should have bought a escort, they dont rust! (stand back, wait for the flack) Billy. Although I am the owner of many shotguns ( Miroku, Winchester, Beretta, ) and others, I have to agree. Love my Escort Magnum ...Drop it into the mud, who cares. Wash it down.... spray with WD 40... wipe down with an oily rag. Happy days.
Wildfowler12
Persistent rubbing with 3-in-1 oil got it out in the end
