Sco77w Posted October 15, 2011 Report Share Posted October 15, 2011 Ive seen a few threads about uping the capacity on your magazine tube to convert a semi auto shotgun held on a shotgun cert to a multi shot FAC shotgun. Is the conversion cheap enough to do or would I be better off just buying a FAC shotgun to start with. I've not even put in my application for an FAC yet but just wondered if anyone had done it. But normally it's a change of mag tube done by a gun smith. Not a big deal says on the wesbite, will go to 5+1, that would be more than enough i'm sure But get the FAC sorted first. Yes it is the Armsan, it has a crimp around the mag tube restricting the capacity, having this removed will take it up to 4+1 but I'm not sure if there's a tube extender. Is the FAC application similar to the one for the shotgun cert? Do I need to specify what type of guns I intend to have or is it just a case of getting them added as and when you need them? Application is slightly different in that you will have to likely surrender your SGC and reapply for it along with the FAC at the same-time to get a coterminus arrangemnent in place. A little bit of work involved I'm afraid. Had to do it all myself a few years back. Mines a 4 shot. 4+1 will likely be more than enough. Birds have normally disappeared by the time I've got 3 shots off, but a 4th for me allows a bird to come around for another shot if it desires... 5 shot is ideal, gun must start to get heavy by the time you have 8 carts or more in it.. pigeon street Posted October 15, 2011 Report Share Posted October 15, 2011 Friend of mine had a beretta 303 i think it was a 5 + 1 or 6 + 1. when the law changed in the late 80s he had to take it to the local gun smith, when he got it back they had squashed the magazine to so you could only put 2 cartridges in. i make it sound very crewed but it was a very neat job. My intention was to (hopefully) get my FAC then re-new them together when my shotgun cert was up for renewall, I've only had it since April so chances are it would be a year early. willy1 Posted October 16, 2011 Report Share Posted October 16, 2011 I had my Hatsan escort (NO COMMENTS,PLEASE ) converted to 8 shot.All that happened was the gunsmith (RFD) did the work then put my shotgun (FAC now) onto my Firearms Certificate, he sent off two faxes to firearms dept,one saying that my shotgun had been transferred to him ,the other one stating that I now had an FAC shotgun.(same shotgun), I informed my firearms dept the same by e-mail so's i've got a copy of transactions for proof.Cost of parts, £47, total charge of £60. You may have chosen (Or had it suggested to you by feo) to surrender your sgc and have a fresh start so that both certs run out at the same time. Evil Elvis Posted October 23, 2011 Report Share Posted October 23, 2011 I have a 5 shot maxus, and I dont do psg, however I do a lot of pigeon shooting and before anyone says youll never do 5 birds at a time, I have done it over deeks several times, I was shooting yesterday and managed several left and rights and only took 3 shots on one occasion, BUT they are there if the opportunity arises! It also comes into its own if you are fox shooting, the extra shots can be handy!! ive also found it to be beneficial in the spring for squirrel shooting, when they are gathered together in groups and mating,I managed to get 5 in one tree!!! I met 4 great guys (not one of them dressed like John Rambo or obsessed with the impending zombie invasion like people would have you believe) and was made to feel welcome. More importantly was I got to see what the guys were using, It has become apparant that 7+1 definately isn't enough and I dont think there is a mag tube made thats long enough to hold the 9 carts I'll need. The A620 (semi auto 20 gauge) was made for and sold as a Mossberg. I've emailed Armsan and waiting for a reply. I have been advised (Off the records) that I might get knocked back on this one even though I believe that I have shown sufficient "good reason" for wanting one. If this does happen I will have to decide on if I want to appeal the decision, which could take time. If this does happen then the option open to me is to get a 2+1 semi auto on my SGC and maybe get it converted to something like a 4+1 or 6+1 if and when I decide to appeal the decision for a S1 shotgun. Is the conversion from a 2+1 to something like a 4+1 (Or larger if required) only possible on certain makes/models of semi auto shotguns (If yes, which please) or is it (In theory) possible on all semi autos please? FAC ones are sometimes cheaper to buy as more limited market but i know of one that has been sec 2 then 1 then 2 then 1 and going back to 2........ I think you'll find most, if not all semi autos are made to take about 4 carts in the mag tube (I'm sure someone will be along to correct me). They are restricted by UK law to 2 usually by crimping the tube so you can't get carts past the crimp. Tubes without the crimp seam to be cheap to buy and fit from what the guys on here say.
