swindon
its official, the gun was faulty. after the dealer telling me that he put 100 carts through without fail!!!, he left it with browning to free up the piston a bit, went to collect yesterday and they told me that browning are replacing it as there was a problem with the carrier, so it wasnt me doing something wrong, it was the gun. P~MX
The advice to give the internals of the gun a proper clean is good - I bought a Maxus Pr Gd3 last year and cleaned it before taking it out for the 1st time - Browning had coated all the internals with a dark sticky almost dry metal preservative. if you read the Bronwing manual it tells you this "dark sticky" stuff should be cleaned off before use and to coat with 'dry lube' before a rebuild ! Evil Elvis
Glad you got it sorted Should have bought a Winchester SX3, Cheaper and much better Funny you should say that....the action in the SX3 is made by Browning, so its only better in your head! I am not sure if the Maxis has the same gas system set up as the Browning Silver/Gold and SX3 but I do know for a fact that some have issues and are a bit finicky. The simple answer is no, its is a new design. should have bought a escort, more reliable and cheaper you are delirious!!! I have just bought one and its cycled anything from 21g to 42g faultlessly. As someone else said, on a comercial scale production, you are always going to get one or two faulty ones.................the opposite to an escort I suppose were occasionally once in a blue moon leapyear on a sunday you might find a good one!!! Evil Elvis
Just to add what I said above, i have had 4 browning semi's 2 silver hunters and a gold hunter + the maxus and I havent ever had an issue with ANY of them!!!
swindon
its gets better, or worse. my gun has been damaged in transit from the repair shop. they are now sending me a new one from the factory !!! i have been told that it will not work on anything below 70mm so as long as i know, its alright. hopefully getting it this week
FIESTA
hi ask to swap it for sx3 i shoot 70 to 100 clays every sunday never had a jam i clean it every week always use 70m 28gms carts atb
Tim Kelly
Unless you want to use daft light clay loads a maxus will cycle 67mm cases reliably and 65mm if they've got a reasonably punchy load. I think the main reason for stating that you must use 70mm plus is that, with a 67mm or less cartridge, you could accidentally put a fourth cartridge into the gun if it's 3 1/2" chambered, which would of course be illegal. danimal
if you put the two guns together a lot of the parts are the same! i have had to send a brand new sx3 back not cycling too! maxus should cycle shorter shells if heavy loads is 32g up are used. A bolt 22.250
Ive owend my Maxus for just over a year now it's had well over 500 carts through it (28's 32's and 46's) and it's never jammed once I think you must of just had duff one. bear with it in my oppion its the best semi auto out there had a Benelli black egale before this and didint like it was more fussie and i didint like the handling. the browning fits me purfect and feels a lot more balanced i choose this over my berreta 682 now for every thing from clays, pigion, wildfowl i only keep the 682 for game days. Hope this somehow puts your mind at rest. Edited October 24, 2011 by A bolt 22.

JonnyR
Only problem I've had with mine was trying to shoot some 65mm 21g 'trainer' loads. Everything else is faultless. Mine is abused and gets cleaned about 1 in every 10 outings. Brilliant bit of kit. Stick with 67mm cases or longer and it should be fine. swindon
I have been given the replacement Maxus, so am going to try it out this morning over the fields. 70mm size 6 30g carts, so lets see how this one goes. thanks for all your comments on this one. swindon
its works brilliantly, cycles cartridges at some crazy speeds. Put 50 kent velocity 70mm through and it was faultless, will take it to shoot some clays with it to see where the point of aim is next. I think you will find that it shoots flat to the point of feeling low. At least that is how mine seems to shoot. I will be interested to hear your experience on this. espron
Well weeks later but just shot my maxus did 100 and no problem what so ever, the only issue I had was that I could see flash when it was ejecting the cart out. But was told that was normal you don't normaly see during the day but first semi at dusk, I was told that muzzle flash is the same.
Munchie
Brand new gun took it on to skeet range Saturday. First round Express pro 28g size 7 1/2 fired perfect, second round jammed 7! Times. Third round 4 times. Changed to 32g size 6 worked perfect. Went back to the other cartridges jammed first time continued to jam, back to 32g perfect again. Cartridge is jamming between face of bolt and ejection port. I am hoping this is a cartridge problem, this is seriously annoying. Any ideas what could be causing this problem. Skeet again this Sunday with different brand 28g see what happens
Tim Kelly
65mm cases are prone to jamming in most gas powered semis. I can usually use 67mm and longer cases without troubles in my 3.5" maxus as long as they're not super light training loads. It's the nature of the mechanism to need the case to be long enough to keep the seal until the bolt has moved far enough I assume.
delburt0
I was surprised, as i have spent over £5000 with this particular shop and thought, they could have offered the replacement cartridges as a gesture of goodwill. Still, once fixed, i will take my business elsewhere. tried 70mm and there was no difference. i did have a beretta, never had any issue with it in over a year, wish i had kept it now.... my Remington would not cycle 65mm and was hit and miss with 67mm, I Only use 70mm now and never had a jam since obviously you have tried this, Hope you have a happy outcome. I am used to buying 70mm only now and using them in all my 12 bores it's worth it as I love the Remington (It's amazing what difference 3mm makes) no pun intended ... Munchie
Just back from skeet with shooting mates. Put 150 32g 6s through gun and it performed brilliantly. Then put a box of 28g 7 1/2 Eley Olympics through gun, again no problems. Back to the Eley 28g Pro Shot, jammed first shot. Looks like the cartridges at fault. Returned to shooting after 5 year break (forgot how enjoyable it and what great people meet who enjoy sharing the sport.) Previous guns were Browning 525, Winchester Light and Beretta Silver Pigeon 20 bore, all o/u's so no previous S/A experience. Should I be concerned that my lovely new Maxus does not function with a particular cartridge? Is it normal? Do I need to think about sending it back to dealers to sort problems. Appreciate any advice. Cheers.
Danoi99
I took some trainers back to the shop because they sqeeked when you walked. The guy in the shop said he would send them off to Karrimor to see what the problem was. I said," That's interesting mate......can I have my money back now !! " I got my money........if I spent a grand on a gun and it squeeeked.........I'd go Ali Bongo !!!!!! If it doesn't work.............REFUND TIME !!!! surely ?
