Semi Choice

I am just about to buy my first semi. Narrowed it down to two:

• Benelli M2 Comfortech Mancino;

• Beretta A400 Xplor Unico (Kickoff).

I have a headache with witch one to choose.

I am a lefty and the obvious choice would be the Benelli. But I can shoot a right handed semi, left handed and do not get distracted with the flying shells..

Both fit me very well. My brain is telling me to get the Benelli. My heart is telling me to buy the Beretta.

Which one would you go for and why.

Thanks

Is it for clays or rough shooting?

I had a 391 Urika for about 6 months and to be honest I couldnt stand it. I know a LOT of people are very happy with theirs so it must be a personal thing but what I found nigh on impossible to get on with was the actual cycling action which seemed very clunky. I know the Beretta is gas operated which (I beleive) by definition makes it slower to cycle and softer recoiling but I found the whole process quite distracting especially when I was trying to get onto the second target.

Then, by complete chance I tried a Benelli SuperSport and what a difference. The Benelli is inertia operated and as such much faster to cycle - so muh so that when I shoot it I dont even perceive it as being an auto, it operates so quickly. Granted you feel the recoil a touch more than the Beretta but not enough to be a deal breaker in my opinion and the Benelli is also a lot easier and quicker to clean.

By all means get a few opinions from the forum but before parting with your cash do your best to at least put a few ounds through each (a box if you can) as the two guns feel totally different in my opinion and one may well suit you far better than the other.

Good luck :good:

Iam a lefty and youve got to go with a left hander tryed a right handed auto and got an eye full of **** off the cartridge

I'm a righty and the other day I got that and it almost ruined the day and my right eye took a good day or so to recover.

Only happened to me twice, if it happens more often for a lefty with a RH gun, I'd def say get a lefty gun.

I almost think the problem is made worse because these semis now cycle so quick that the rubbish comes out the side rather than going out down the barrel.

I've 2 Browning's ~~ Sporting Clays & Maxus ~~ I've had 4 Beretta's and a Benelli over the years and Nothing would compare to a MAXUS they are simply faultless :good:

I thought about buying a Maxus... but the trigger pull weight was nearly the weight of the gun

I could not put up with that for clayshooting, other than that it's not really a bad gun.

BlaserF3 I shoot a Perazzi MX2000S at clays and I've an F3 for back up both with triggers around 3 lb, I've also shot auto's all my life and I never notice the heavier trigger pull on the auto, you can have the trigger lighten on an auto if you wanted but you needed to be careful you don;t get too much off it or it'll be fully automatic :good:

I believe that the Beretta A400 is having a lot of problems, I know of three which have been returned to GMK. The Beretta will have less recoil than the Benelli as it's a gasser.

I have used a 391 for years with no problems, that's what I would reccomend.

If you have any details about the a400 faults it would be appreciated, might help owners spot problems early. I did a Google, couldn't find anything mentioned except for some wear on the anodizing around the ejection port. One guy in US reckons some 3.5" shells are longer than others and can cause problems, nobody else though.

Mine is fine and I love it, I have the Xplor Unico 3.5" with kickoff3. I have seen something similar to the fireball mentioned earlier in this thread, only when using 2.5" Supreme Game 34g fibre. I wonder if it is because this cartridge uses a slow-burning powder, combined with a short case, I can sometimes see a small flash of flame in the ejection port, as if the bolt has opened whilst the last of the gases are burning in the barrel. I'm left handed too, and this hasn't caused me any problems shooting without glasses.

Back to the OP, I'm a lefty, my A400 is set up for a lefty, and I'm in Gravesend, Kent - not far from the Dartford Tunnel. If you have pigeons and aren't too far I'd be happy to bring it over and you can use it for an afternoon in the field.
