killer rabbit (r1000)
:o i may be getting rights for a couple of cemetaries which have rabbit problems, but i'm not entirely sure what to do with my quarry afterwards (as they are known to dig up & possibly eat our dearly departed... ) what would you do... Hunter
Errrr is this a wind up? Rabbits dont eat flesh, full stop. That and the fact that they are burried a good 3-4 foot deep, in a sealed wooden box. Dont worry, the rabbits havent been eating people, they will be just fine to eat yourself. killer rabbit (r1000)
Errrr is this a wind up? :o Rabbits dont eat flesh, full stop. Dont worry, the rabbits havent been eating people, they will be just fine to eat yourself. not entirely sure about that, i've been told by staff & other people on the premises that rabbits have been seen on occasion running around carrying parts of our relatives (possibly also being dug up by foxes!) al4x
they're definitely winding you up. if it was occuring pest control would be enforced rather more in cemetries
killer rabbit (r1000)
:o sorry guys, just to clarify, this is NOT a wind-up. i was talking to the superintendant at one of the sites the other day, his site is not yet open but will be soon. he was telling me of the problems they've been having & that other methods have been tried in the past (which worked for a short while). he gave me contact details for his & the other site & is hopeful (especially on his own site where i have seen several large rabbits myself, he would like the problem taking care of before it starts). all i have to do is obtain written permission from the local council who actually own the land, unfortunately, that's the hard part . they have other ideas about pest control which aren't always as effective, & they don't like to promote the use of any kind of firearm, including for this purpose. Maori Haz
People are buried about 6 ft/7 ft down, with wooden boxes/ plus rabbits are vegetarian. but there is a possibility? it's up to you, some may feel comfortable eating them, but you might not, nor like giving them to people. It's really your decision. I am not sure to be honest about what i would do if that was the case. haz

new to the flock
Why not use ferrets and nets to get the little beggers out if the council is not happy with guns. As to what to do with them....it is your preferance, I personally have no problems eating meat eaters, bears, cougar, (before anybody else says it....cougar, nothing wrong with a bit of ***** ) sorry Henry and Cranfield :o aswell as others and lets face it thats all we are.... meat. If you are not happy eating it then give to someone who is or feed it to the dogs or ferrets. I am sure you would be able to find lots of older fixed income folks who would welcome the rabbits. NTTF

NTTF unfortunately, i've found that the local councils can be very awkward about 'bloodsports' as they put it, they seem to be forgetting that these sites are in the middle of an official rabbit clearance area :o they are even less likely to allow ferrets or dogs to be used as they would say "it is too cruel" (like the traditional foxhunt). to an extent i can agree with that, but i have no problem with a quick & clean kill. Chezney
Ok, I think it's very unlikely that a rabbit would eat flesh, so I would eat them. But you are fighting your corner of not eating them so strongly I don't see why you have asked peoples advice when it seems you have made your mind up already If you are that convinced and that bothered about it, just burn them... killer rabbit (r1000)
We've 2 graveyards beside a beach, place used to be FULL of rabbits until mixy got them. Just starting to see them come back again. Sorry but I've not seen any of them dragging a foot off with them for supper or wearing any buried watches around their necks Methinks winding up season has been extended to all year around. John :o nothing quite so big being carried off here either, just the odd small limb (toes, fingers, small bones etc). usually moved when they're digging burrows, but they have been seen! (think about it logically, if a rabbit digs its way into a coffin - maybe due to rotting wood, wouldn't it make use of a ready-made shelter with a little extra reinforcement?)
