PigeonEater
Hi guys as far as cheap clay carts go what are peopls experience with eley first? decent, clean etc? £154 per 1000 at cheshire gun room. Would anybody use these for rough shooting? they are 7.5 28gms fibre wads.
Flat-Cap
I used them a bit, and felt that they had more recoil than my preferred budget clay cartridge (Hull Comp X), but I was impressed with the breaks (but that may just be a psychological thing due to the recoil). Shot 500 or so without any problems. To be honest, I don't see why you'd pay any more for a clay cartridge, unless you're at least AA class and need something that patterns well at distance for those long range clays at the big competitions. Floating Chamber
Dirty? Clean barrels never killed anything. People are obsessed by 'dirty barrels'. Clean the gun! Edited December 1, 2011 by Floating Chamber
fruity
I use alot of first for clays and find them pretty good overhaul and not to dirty , 154 per thou is a fair price too . I personaly wouldnt use them for rough shooting i prefer 5,s or 6,s in a 30gm fibre
codit75
I'm using these at the moment seem good to me although I've limited Experiance
bigjohn
I've got no complaints about them, as clay carts. Personally, I'd go with something a little meatier for rough shooting, as mentioned above, by Fruity.
Ferret Master
They work perfectly well for clays but I would consider them unsuitable for rough shooting. FM

Chard
Dirty? Clean barrels never killed anything. People are obsessed by 'dirty barrels'. Clean the gun! Can't argue with that
pigeonblasterian
I use 7.5 on the pigeons and crows but for bigger stuff would use 5 or 6.
Salop Matt
I once bought 250 elay firsts in fiber and they worked okay except for the fibre wad ! They broke up like confetti with nearly every shot and i was soon known for them on the clay ground and people continually took the Pee for them. So I have never been back to them. Its express hull or gamebore for me now !
codit75
I'm looking to buy my next 500 not sure what to go with now

apache
Cheap but the crud in the gun after shooting is awful. Genuinely takes 4 times as long to clean the gun after shooting them. The lead must be soft and smear in the gun. That alone stopped me using them. I have a slab under the bed if I run out of everything else that I can't bring myself to use. Dekers
I have used a lot of Eley First historically on the clays. Did what they said and worked, they used to be FILTHY, all sorts of crud used to fly out of the barrel, but they worked, I have heard others say more recently they are not so dirty anymore. Does it matter, I'm never going to win any world championships and my endeavours on the clay are just a bit of fun, and the gun gets cleaned afterwards whatever I put through it! Dr_evil
never had a problem with them, cleaning takes the same amount of time as with other carts IMO
EdSolomons
Save time and don't bother cleaning it!
normgun
if you can get a couple boxes of the gamebore kent velocety try them i have used them for about 3 years and they are pretty clean, about £170 a thousand for felt.
OvEr_KiLL
i have the dan arms sport cartridges and yes they do make the gun dirty but it does come out when i get back home and clean it , i think they are cheap because they arnt making them anymore..i wont be buying them again
dan-250
I use the Kent velocity, they seem better then the firsts but I only got them as they was the ones on offer. By better I mean smoother. I like the look to as there clear and you can see what's in them. Last time clay shooting a chap got hold of his dads cartridges and emtied the shot and put tissue in the last few, no wonder he missed alot. But I normally get the firsts, great cartridges don't have any complaints about them
TbirdX
I've just shot my way through around 500 Eley Firsts but in plastic flavour. Seemed perfectly ok to me, not too dirty and didn't kick that bad in my Maxus. I've just got hold of Eley Olympics now so we'll see how they compare.
