gibby Posted May 30, 2006 Report Share Posted May 30, 2006 Am not an air rifle man myself... but couldnt turn down the oppertunity for a night out with the BSA Ultra .22 with Chezney, LordAJ and myself. Few good shots throughout the night... but with LordAJ missing some absolute sitters . All were taken with head shots...Cracking gun, and sure does knock them down, would be very tempted to purchase one for when the rimmy is not an option. Best bit of the evening had to be the skinning and gutting, should have done a few on the field as a few had been left a bit and ponged ... eventually got the job done and 6 nicely paunched and skinned rabbits for the freezer. Chezney Posted May 30, 2006 Report Share Posted May 30, 2006 The Ultra is getting very close to 12lbs/ft consistantly, getting a good 100 shots per charge. The pellets I find work best is the Air Arms Hunters... they are quite heavy but when they hit, they do the job. Lord Geordie Posted May 31, 2006 Report Share Posted May 31, 2006 Beauty with airguns is your FIELD knowledge has to be quite sharp to get your quarry you range is limited compared to Rim fire or centre fires so you have to stalk your intended quarry OR sit it out. I am NOT saying you Rimmy or HMR lads etc don't have field skills though i am just saying with an air rifle we have to get within 35 to 40 yards for a good clean kill Closest I have been (by sheer accident climbing over a mound) was approx 6 feet My Mate got within about 10 to 20 and i have THAT on video trouble is at the LAST second as he brought the rifle to bear down the Rabbit clocked him and bolted. Shame I spent the best part of 20 years stalking rabbits and pigeons with air rifles before moving onto Shotguns this year and the Air rifle STILL has a place in my heart I have used other guns inc Rim fire and a Centre fire (thanks Markbivvy ) but for the hunting i was doing they were over kill. There may be the tinyest drop nearing the 90 mark, but if you really want proof i can get hold of a chrono and give you the results for every shot. Dougie_fn12 Posted June 1, 2006 Report Share Posted June 1, 2006 doesnt bother me m8..... but i think even the designer of the rifle would be stretched to get 50 consistant shots from one...never mind 100 :yp: and a standard one doing a 100 shots would mean having it tuned would reach around 120 shots...... from that tiny cylinder others who have had the ultras tuned have had to have longer cylinders/barrels fitted to reach 60 shots..... so you have a super gun there my friend Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I shot at a target, 30 yards away that is about 3 inches diameter. i hit it consistantly throughout. It was only at about the 95th shot that i noticed a change when it hit a tad lower on the target.
