Review Your Year 2011

So, what are the highlights of PW'ers' clay shooting escapades this year?

My shooting year has seemed fairly quiet, but has put far too many miles on my car and cost me a small fortune. :hmm::lol: I have managed to pick up a few prizes along the way though so not all bad. :good:

High Gun - Callum Memorial Trophy Shoot - Marne (45/50)

High Gun - Philip Scott Memorial Shoot - Aske Hall (39/40)

Overall High Gun - Marne Winter Series 2010/11 (Sporting & ABT)

1st A Class - British Open All Round - Doveridge (93/100) Finished joint second in 5-way shootoff for overall 3rd.

2nd A Class - English Open All Round - Doveridge (86/100)

1st A Class - North of England All Round - NOEAC (92/100) Lost shootoff for High Gun.

=1st in A Class - North of England Skeet - NOEAC (98/100) Dropped 2 on last round <_<

Other than that, just a few 2nd and 3rd place in Class for me, here and there. :hmm: Have won a few High Guns at Marne though :good:

Other highlights were:

- Shooting the Essex Masters for the first time and doing ok-ish with 165/200 (85 & 80).

- I also shot the Clay Shooting Classic for the first time at EJ Churchills and really enjoyed that one - doing a 66/75 on the harder of the two courses in the morning, only to meltdown on the easier one in the afternoon with 58/75 to finish on 124.

- I also had the pleasure of shooting on George Digweed's squad for the British Open at Hodnet, but may as well have just attended a spectator. Good to watch him shooting so well, but I had a bit of a 'mare.

- Qualified for the North of England Skeet Team again and repped the team at the British Open at Bisley. We didn't win <_<

- I managed to scrape my way into a shootoff at the British Open Handicap by Distance at Bywell, which came as a surprise. That was for 8th Overall, but I got well and truly tonked in the shootoff by Nigel Chapman. Serves my right for dabbling in DTL I suppose. :o

- Finished the season off by scraping into the Top 20 All Round Rankings in 8th place. But not many people shoot it, so nobody cares. :ermm:<_<

Targets for 2012?

Sack off registered sporting, unless it's really local and try to focus on skeet.

A county or regional badge would be nice, but we'll see - I might have to form my own county first. :P

Spend less money on it.

Not much of a year for me really <_<

Won a few quid while I was in B Class, but the only result of note was the Beretta World in July, where I came about 70th out of 900-odd entrants, which put me 5th in B Class.

I was chuffed as **** with that, because my 101/120 put me ahead of a lot of big names.

Nowt else of note though

Mediocre year really <_<

I'll try and do a bit more skeet next year I think :hmm:

Not been upto much in the way of registereds this year. Although I tried to do all the Major comps. Beretta, Benelli, British, English, Essex etc.

British open was a good do as I shot it with Paulos and Digweed and stood over (Digweed not Paulos) shoulder all the way round to watch him do 117/120. The best seat in the house and abit of Clay shooting history to have a front row seat on :good:

I did the same last year on the English open :good:

Other than that my Shooting has gone to **** from not being competetive enough and fannying about.

I'm going to be doing more Skeet in 2012 and Allround. But only if it isn't £50 quid in diesel away <_<

Please don't stop shooting sporting. It increases the prize fund ;-)

The only review I'd want to write:

I enjoyed it ALL :good:

I shall never get to worry any High Guns but it's my sport and I do it for fun. Sure, winning is great but being there in good company is more reliable and very rewarding in itself

Two highlights (in my little world) were holding the Papworths (England shots, both) to a draw at the East Anglia Air Ambulance charity shoot in West Norfolk. 29 ex 30 on a very fast flush in the company of Mr Countryside Lass and more recently managing to get, undetected, into the winning team at the PW flush organised by HitClays in windy Norfolk.

Meeting and making some excellent new friends from the PW forum has been first rate too and I'm chuffed to have helped a few new shots get a little further along the way

I think enjoyment and friendly competition are the best things about our sport...and NO I don't do Sk**t!

It's been a tale of two halves for Potter this year. from January to May I was shooting quite well, don't think I dropped below 80% during that period, picked up a bit of prize money here and there and had the best result of my life at the Easter Monday shoot at Catton Hall with a 96 and overall high gun :D:D:D:D:D:D

Wasn't too many weeks after that the rot set in and with one or two exceptions I haven't been able to buy a decent score!! Went for weeks & weeks only dreaming of getting back into the eighties, don't know why but inconsistency has been the name of the game all thorough out my shooting "career".

But in the middle of this slump I took myself off to the Netherlands and shot the 2011 Dutch FITASC GP at Dorhoot Mess (for full story search this forum for the longest, most boring shoot report - without photos!) Anyhoo it all seemed to click into place and I shot way above my recent form and finished on a 168 x 200, never dropped below 20 on any of the eight layouts and finished 19th overall. I was really chuffed with that.

Other shoots, 89 at the N v S charity shoot which was joint 4th overall but the elation of my score was somewhat drowned by the unseemly cheering and hollering of the dastardly Southerners when it was announced that they had somehow scraped the win. :o :o

Like Paulos and one or two others I shot the Essex Masters, the Classic at Churchill's and the B O at Hodnet.

Hodnet was awesome but I didn't do it justice. Didn't particularly enjoy the Clay Classic, I shot badly (118 x 150) but IMHO the shoot was quite ordinary with the targets not being a patch on those at the same event in 2010. Of those three, the shoot I enjoyed the most was the Essex Masters, shot a 166 which was I suppose respectable but that will be the one I'm most looking forward to in 2012.

There you go, the Potter shooting year, going to get a grip for twentytwelve and see if I can reverse the ravages of time and carry on enjoying myself. I've always had the same motto - "Aim low and you're less likely to be disappointed" but inexplicably I still utter an expletive whilst hurling my empties in the bin when one or both of those bloody inanimate objects sail on unmolested :o :o

Hmmmm,

Seeing as i no longer shoot registered its going to be a short review,

Won a couple of my local club competitions,

Attended the 2nd North v South shoot and shot better than i did the first one.

Worst bit was being on the losing side (hopefully rectified next year).

Not been a bad year for me, a bit up and down.

2 high guns in registered sportrap and 1 class win, it’s the first time I have ever shot sportrap this year and I have not done that many, one being the British open so I am happy with that.

Had quite a few class wins in registered sporting my best being a 91 along with a few 2nd and 3rd places to win some cash.

Shot the British open for both sportrap and sporting and really enjoyed both.

I also shot the Essex Masters for the first time but suffered from sleep deprivation after sharing a hotel room located closer to my home than the venue with what sounded like a pregnant walrus. Shot the first 100 really well but dismally for the 2nd 100, I will, however, be back next year.

I also tried shooting ******* skeet for the first and second time, there shall not be a third time unless the devil decides he likes ice skating....... ******* skeet.

What I have learnt, enter the comp, you have to be in it to win it, this is after getting high gun at my very first attempt at registered sportrap but having nothing to show for it apart from ridicule. <_<:hmm::lol:

Next year I intend to shoot some more disciplines and give them a try along with some new grounds (the last bit may be hard as I have done nearly all that are within reasonable travelling distance and some not so reasonable)

The list of things to shoot next year are.

The Benelli

The Essex Masters

And to have fun in this very frustrating sport. :good:

For me it's hit a few more, don't shoot the British after a morning at work and a 3.5 hour drive, do some fitasc and hopefully get in the GB squad, maybe win something again as the majors somewhat eluded me this year with the exception of lots of class placings and a 3rd in the British sportrap.

Concentrate less on doing a boat load of sportings and spread the wings a bit!

Had a thoroughly enjoyable year in 2011; highlights included shooting the Essex Masters and Beretta World for the first time, experiencing some crackingtargets at North Wolds and putting in a 90 at the North of England Championships at Coniston in August  Got close to making the Lancashire Sporting team but just fell short at the end of the selection process; all invaluable experience though :good:

As for 2012; quiet year due to bambino number two rocking up in April so won't be shooting much apart from the North Region Sporting selection shoots and any shoots at Hodnet :good:

Paulos's sub-heading asked how many carts shot? Well I've just gone through the diary and totaled up the shots fired. Now I've got the figure I've burnt the diary and am going to try and destroy that bit of my brain were the number is stored. Doesn't come as much of a shock to me but if the following were to happen I'm a dead man :o :o

The fragrant Mrs Potter logs onto Pigeon Watch (odds about 500,000 to 1)

The above named works out who Potter is (odds about 1,000,000 to 1)

Finds out the cost of cartridges. (odds about 1,000 to 1)

Therefore you will understand if I merely say I fired off a box or two.

Potter (you ain't seen me - right)

To win anything or get a classification yes, however most shoots will let you shoot birds only if you are not CPSA registered & you just want the experience. :good:

thanks, yeah just to try it out, think ill stick with the plan of getting basc insurance instead of joining cpsa :)

I'm glad to read that it's not just me who has never got around to mentioning the cost of those little plastic tubes to She Who Must Be Obeyed  I buy my cartridges for cash as bank statement reconciliation around the kitchen table would become even more stressful and I'd lose the moral high gound 'How much for a handbag / shoes / haircut?'... :D
