Browning
Henry, For both sticks and bipod I tend to hold the top of the sticks/bipod and the rifle stock together, and pull into my shoulder quite firmly. I find that for me, especially when standing with sticks, I get a steadier rest when using this method.
Dunkield
I will be interested in seeing how this one goes.. I don't hang on too tight, but my mate who shoots far more than I do swears blind you have to hang on tight to shoot properly. If shooting off a bipod I cross my arms under the butt end of the stock and just the gun jump if it wants to and normally the bullets go where I want them too. I can't stand shooting off sticks, and would prefer to shoot offhand whenever possible with my .22 but with a centrefire I find it very hard due to the weight as I have skinny forearms to make it even worse, so I have to use sticks or use a tree if the is one available. Graham M
I have to use x-stix now due to arthritis in my shoulders. I find the best way is to rest the rifle on the top of the canvas strap that holds the top of the sticks together and to push the front of the rifle sling underneath the strap with my thumb. This holds the rifle nice and steady and stops any wobbling or pulse being transferred through my left hand. As for pulling the rifle into the shoulder, don’t need to with the .243, but find it makes the .17hmr shoot tighter. G.M.
Frank
I hold my rifle, .223, firmly, into my shoulder and with the bi-pod out, i put my left hand on the forend holding it firmly too and gently squeeze the triger. Sometimes, depending on the situation, i will hold my left hand, across my chest, with the hand suporting the but of the rifle. At present, i have no bi-pod for my .22lr, so usally shoot off hand or rest the rifle on a bank or tree. Frank.

Over to you lot............not you mungler if you`ve nowt constructive to say keep it zipped Henry What will influence your shooting style the most will be your trigger pull ...............I have mine set as light as I think safe (For myself that is ) and this allows me a similar style already mentioned by Stuart when using the bi-pods .........Right hand on the trigger with the left being folded under supporting the stock leaving the foreend free . A strong trigger pull will require a stronger grip on the fore end I feel
gibby
When shooting from the bipod with .243, I pull it in tight and I use my left hand to steady the bottom of the stock... if you see what i mean... I find the breathing is more important then where the gun is held. Gibby
flash
personally i tend to use my hands to hold centre fire rifles, but thats only my opinion HD joke aside, i have a steady firm grip and gently squeeze the trigger, never shot with poles so i wouldnt know yet. cheers flash
kip270
A firm grip, pulling into the shoulder, and a gentle squeeze of the trigger, whether shooting off sticks or lying prone Very interesting link that HD, i had a good read too

Dunkield
Same question bit with slant, which will help me answer another question elsewhere... Do you think holding more tightly/less tightly whatever your preference is, alters the point of aim or just the consistancy of the shots?
