Alex C
I need to attend a wedding of my best mate who is getting married on the 27th Jan in Belfast. I have just checked on the prices of ferries and to say i was shocked was a bit of an understatement. The best part of £300 return! :o Is that what you have to pay these days or is there a cheaper way? Any help would be appreciated Cheers Alex
Muggins.
I`d look for a no frills airline, it`ll be loads cheaper.
39TDS
I`d look for a no frills airline, it`ll be loads cheaper. Trouble is that the taxi from Shannon will cost a fortune. If the wedding is in Belfast why can't you go as a foot passenger? Ferry prices to Ireland have always been pretty severe. artschool
foot passenger is way cheaper. Belfast is small you can just get taxis.
shot shot
It'll be much cheaper to fly, I'm a student in stafford, so I fly to and fro every few months. From Birmingham it usually costs about 40 quid each way on BMI baby to Belfast City airport. And at the airport, you're only a couple of miles from the city center. The boats a scam, only useful if absolutely must bring the car

Cannon
As mentioned above the boat is an expensive option. It's only really worth it if you are bringing a car. I managed to get Belfast to Stranraer then Stranraer to Belfast ferry for two people and a car for £260 a couple of months ago. A flight followed by a taxi would be your best option. Alex C
Thanks for the replies guys. The problem i have is that there are 3 of us and i am having to transport all the suits for the men in the wedding party. If it was just me the cheapo flight would deffo be the way. I have seen one for £260 so may snap it up. Good shout on the Tesco vouchers, will speak to the wife and see what we have. Last time i raced in France i got a Dover - Calias return driving the Van with a trailer for around £80 on the Euro Tunnel. The trip to Belfast just smacks of daylight robbery ! Never mind, will jsut have to accept that this aint going to be a cheap weekend !! Cheers Alex
Teal
Think it'll be Cairnryan to Belfast these days, as Stena have moved their port from Stranraer, and P&O go to Larne. Just booked a crossing myself, I get a decent discount under a company travel scheme, but it's still expensive. The car has 5 people in it, which helps. If he lives in belfast then thats fair enough but there seems to be a lot of unrealistic people nowadays who 'have' to have their wedding in an exotic location. An example, I was invited to a wedding to someone who lives locally and who's family live locally but they put everyone through the huge expense of travelling to cornwall with overnight stays at peak prices just because they loved it there and had to be married on a private beach. What made me laugh was the family are millionaires and dident offer anyone hotel accomodation 'on the house' yet own there own house down there!!! I think you are saying that Belfast is akin to an "exotic location". I live about 20 miles from that fine city but have never heard it called that before. Thanks a billion - on day two, you have MADE 2012 for me! PS Ferries have become very expensive but the ships themselves have improved out of all recognition - the two new Stena boats from Cairnryan [Loch Ryan Port] to Belfast are almost like liners or cruise ships. However, they have not got the food on board sorted out yet - very disappointing when we went on Superfast VII last month. Alex C
His Mrs to be is from Belfast, they live on the Isle of Man, his Family are from the North East but they are scattered to the 4 corners at the moment. His family are ok for money so it was decided that the logical place was Belfast. Just means 2 days off work and an expensive ferry ride, i wont even start on the cost of 2 nights in the hotel they are getting married in ! Still he is my best mate so i will just have to bite the bullet ! Just wish it wasnt so close to Xmas Cheers
Laird Lugton
Drive up to NCL and fly to BFS (Aldegrove). Flights should be cheap in January as no one has any money. Edited January 3, 2012 by Laird Lugton
