dunganick
hi i am looking for (if i can raise the cash?) a beretta 12 bore gun i can use as an allrounder clays/walked up game/pigeons. what models are there and what realistic price am i likely to find on for? thanks martin does it have to be a beretta? Browning? Miroku? Winchester? it all depends what your price range is. You can get them for as little as £600 or as much as £20,000. They all will do clays and game, but it depends what you want out of your gun.
tagwag
i really want a beretta but i cant explain why?? its more of a case of if i can afford one seen one today a 686 fof £695 in great condition but it may be a little too pricey for the missus i shoot clays a bit of rough shooting and have just starting decoying pigeons. cheers
BERETTA687
if you are doing mostly clay shooting go for a clay version, it will do the job for rough and game shooting aswell. beretta are a reliable make, thers just so many to choose from, go on to the gmk website and order a beretta catalogue, it will give you pic and specs of all their shotguns. if the beretta 686 you see is a good fit and you like it go for it. MC
Or as Nick has said, buy a Winchester Select. They are based on the Berretta design but built in the FN factory in Belguim to Browning quality. You can pick them up for £450 SH or £695 new. Mine has had about 5000 shell through it in two years and is still as tight as the day I got it. Cheers Martin
gibby
Would second the Select as a good gun... had one before i upgraded to my baby (682 Gold E), the winies are well made and as said put together in Belgium, so cant go wrong there, they are a bit plain but if that doesnt bother you... I sold it on to my club, which now puts 400-500 carts through each saturday, still nice and tight. Gibby

Swanky Doodle Pigeon
I'm in the same boat as tagwag. I'm also new to shooting and was looking at a new or nearly new Silver Pigeon. Would any of you guys recommend the Browning (525?) as an alternative? If so, please can you provide reasons? It would especialy useful if you own, or have shot alot with both models I want to make a balanced decision but I have little or no knowledge of the Browning at the moment. Thanks for reading. danielsonson
I bought a Beretta 686 Special 1/4 and a 1/2 which I would say would be exactly what you need for £620. I took some searching (about 2 months) but I got there in the end, I have to say it is a great gun, the reason I bought this one is because the gun shop sold it to the original owner 15 years ago and knew how little it was used which is obvious when you look at it, it is mint, The guys down the gun club can't believe it's condition. To give you an idea, one guy who had learn't to shoot with a 686 special offered me £800 there and then. I won't part with this particular gun ever because it swings smooth, LOOKS GREAT, and is reliable as a German automobile. Get one but get a good one, you wont be disappointed! trakker01
imo , try all the guns available to you, some are short/long/front heavy, all are diffrent, i tried em all about a dozen semi auto's before i bought, winchester are nice, just maybe pts are a pain, browning a bit front heavy, benelli are good, but you just cannot beat a berretta multi..niiiiiice!! try them all till one feels ,just GOOD.... happy searchin.. price wise a beauty trade for about £400/600 depending on year & model. flytie
A friend of my brothers bought a 525 sporter and when they opened up the box in the shop the forend wood was cracked through. They sent it back and the replacement was the same! Third time lucky....... My brother has just picked up a miroku grade three with teagues for not a lot of money and is thrilled with it, although i think the hinged base plate in the action is just waiting to get full of muck. I like the beretta silver pigeon 3 that i have because they are simple to maintain. The ejectors are easy to get out to clean and with the stock bolt it is easy to take the action away from the wood to clean and dry. So is the forend! I use my gun for everything, clays, game, pigeons and ducks/geese and can see no reason to part with it. I think you made the right choice Ft
dunganick
The cracking the forend is not that uncommon in the brownings, ive seen it in a friends grade 5 twice. However the miroku's do not seem to suffer this, they instead suffer from pitting in the bottom firing pin. The berettas seem to not have any particular fault that i am aware of however the fit and finish of the factory made ones is still not up to browning/miroku/winchester quality in my opinion. I personally would have a browning over a beretta as they are in my opinion better built guns, but the brownings/mirokus can feel a bit bulky with their quite wide action. Where as the berettas are very nicely proportioned. The answer to this is to try them. Be warned though, if you intend to buy new you wont be given many shots (as i discovered when recently buying my miroku) and £600+ is alot to base on 6 shots of a gun. And dont rely on dry mounting, in reality it bares not alot of resemblance to how it will feel when being shot for real.
P03
I use a 687 silver pigeon 3 30" sporter M/C for everything. I used to use a Browning 325 and just thought I was a **** shot once I got the Beretta everything improved . Brownings are excellant guns but they don't suit everyone. There are two types of people; Browning people and Beretta people and never the twain shall swap guns P03 (pigeon 03 that's how much I love my gun (yes! I know that's very sad))
