pigeon controller
We went out Friday morning at 08.00 with one field in mind and when we arrived we were pleased to find approx eighty birds sitting in the trees around the rape field. Phoned the farmer and got the go ahead and set up near the sitty trees with the wind off our backs. It was at least one hour before the first bird returned and then we have a steady stream of birds until 13.00 then it tailed off, so I decided the go for a drive to find birds for Saturday as I passed a wood just up the road I noticed birds in the trees so I parked and walked down the road that ran along the wood this had the desired effect that the birds started to trickle out towards the rape. I then carried on and found another field with approx one hundred birds in the trees, that was saturday sorted I thought. When I returned to the hide we continued to have a trickle of birds coming to the decoys on that way back to roost. We finished the day by picking up one hundred and one. When I returned home the good lady had been in conversation with one of my farmers who informed her that his rape field was "Blue All Over " with pigeon. On checking the number it was a farm that I picked up over eighteen years ago but not shot for the last ten years due to his land being surounded by very posh houses and lots of security people. I gave him a ring and arranged to meet him in the morning. Saturday morning drove out the see the farmer and after chewing the fat for twenty minutes went and had a look at the fields , there were approx two hundred birds on sixty acres. We decided to walk the boundries first and look at possible decoy areas, as we went round we were challenged three times by security personel, asked us if we new Big Pete who walked roud with his gun every morning!!!. By this time we had shot three birds and the flock had left the field and not returned. So we returned to the field that I had seen the birds on the day before, we had a brew and watched the field and decided on a location for the hide and set up. As we drove down the track across the field all the birds up and left going with the wind. We sat it out and ended the day with forty one birds.
