Alpha Mule
It went from the back/side of the rib cage, through the vitals and out from the armpit on the other side. He jumped up, took a couple of wingbeats, fell flat on his face, flapped once more then stopped. By the time I legged it over to him he was dead. I did hit slightly further to the rear than I intended (the breeze got a bit more brisk out of the lee of the shed I had been hiding behind - and the rise of the hillock they were feeding on), but it was quick. Even though the bullet passed through the bird, it did massive damage en route. Almost the entire contents of the chest cavity were mush (strangely the gizzard was completely untouched), hydraulic shock I suppose. Tin hat at the ready. Alpha Mule
not my preferred method but each to there own...lovely shot though did it damage the actual meat? Didn't touch it. It went in from the lower left (just in front of the leg) and exited from the upper right (front 'shooulder' area). Everything inside looked like smashed red jelly, but the meat wasn't touched. That isn't a lemon in the rear, it's an unlaid golden egg
Salop Matt
Looks good, let me know what the eating is like ! Never eaten canada before (never had the chance)
Alpha Mule
It's not bad actually, if you want a 'tastes like' it was something like lamb. The meat is firm but not as tough as some folks imply. We did it with a madeira sauce/gravy. Strangely it wasnt fatty at all. It can't have been too bad as both my young picky kids ate all we gave them and the wife said "So you know where we can get a regular supply of these?" and "Much better than rabbit". garyb
I also didn't realise that HMR gamepoints now come in non-tox?
chrispti
I also didn't realise that HMR gamepoints now come in non-tox? Rifle bullets dont need to be non toxic Not my preferred method either, but no laws were broken, so Irl keep my comments to my self
garyb
Understood... but it's just not cricket Poor show IMHO

That isn't a lemon in the rear, it's an unlaid golden egg Looks very nice! I done one for the misses last year and basted it in honey and stuffed it with lemon amongst things to and it was loooovely, they had been feeding on wheat so was nice a fat,it wasn't to tough either. That was lucky the meat wasn't damaged though!
wildfowler.250
It isn't really a lot harder to shoot geese with a shotgun so don't really see the issue. fair play at least you ate it and that's the main thing in my book! Well done
Alpha Mule
The foxes and crows etc. go as directed by the farmers/owners and are disposed of (either ditched or used as bait for larger stuff), the edible stuff also goes as per the farmers/owners directions, but *all* get eaten. Just as well there isn't much around here, or I'd be a bit heavier than I am now.

Lloyd90
Understood... but it's just not cricket Poor show IMHO Why you trying to stir up trouble ? firstly rifle rounds don't need to be non toxic, secondly it comes under a FAC as pest control, same as rabbit shooting and is on most FAC's. It's a well known fact they can become a pest, no need to have a dig just because you don't agree, just don't comment on the thread. Same as an anti - you don't agree with what he's doing so rather than stay away and not partake which is fine you bother him for doing something perfectly legal
