andy74
What do you guys think of the escort semi/auto shotguns? Been shopping around for a few weeks now, and quite like the look of the synthetic model, and at around £270 its within my budget. Are they a good all round value for money shotgun, that will last me a fair few years?
mossy835
not had one but they have a good report they do speak well of them, thinking of getting one myself.
andy74
not had one but they have a good report they do speak well of them, thinking of getting one myself. My local gunsmiths is doing the black matt synthetic model, 5 choke set, and a 3 year warranty for £265. The price caught my eye straight away, so wanted to find out peoples thoughts on them first. rogo
I had one before I bought my Beretta then Benelli. Cycled ok, forend screwcap which held the thing together frequently came loose under the recoil and when cleaning, the o-ring gas seal was a pain to get back on without damaging. Stock very short too. Apart from that they are good value for money but for every one that says there good I know loads that think there **** but that goes for everything doesn't it. Zapp
Depends what you want it for really. I shot one a couple of weeksago at my local clay ground. It cycled ok with pokey 28g carts, but did less well with 24s. If you are looking at it as an "all rounder", to shoot pigeons and clays (especially if you want to shoot olympic skeet etc), I'd cast your net a bit further. However, if you are looking for a solid, field only (30g plus) workhorse, I say go for it. I'm actually quite tempted by them myself, having developed a severe case of wussiness after dinging my AL391 a couple of times in the hide Hope this helps Pete

rogo
can you have the stocks re sized at all? You could only fit a rubber extension piece on really. The synthetic stock is quite thin.

mry716
I bought a 3" one and then converted it to 8 shot and am perfectly happy with it. Even with 3" carts you can still hold it at arms length and fire it without a problem. No jams and no probs either so for the money they are brilliant and so light. Its not perhaps up to the quality of the better makes but it is less than 1/2 price. You get 5 chokes, a spare 'o' ring and two stock adjust pieces for cast and bend so you can make it fit you. If you need it longer you could easily make a spacer of up to 1" to fit between pad and stock. Excellent value for money in my opinion and I don't regret buying it one little bit. In fact I also bought a 3 1/2" but couldn't get the ext mag for that so sold it on and the friend I sold it to is still a friend and still as happy as 'Larry'
Dunkield
I don't own one but I have shot 2 and they didn't go wrong, although I one owner says it won't cycle 24gram loads as has been mentioned. What hasn't been touched on here but I found when I mounted both of them is the stock length, it is unbeleivably short, not just a bit I am talking about 1 1/2 to 2" short. I need a long stock so a few others (some of who have had there regular stocks shortened to fit) also said the same, and just couldn't get on with it at all - so as always, if possible try before you buy! pavman
I just got one yesterday, fired 300 carts bloke did not like it, I paid £200 (bargin) going to use it on the salt marsh to save the Raptor from getting screwed up, its got full choke kit and all the papers took it out for a few shoots with 28grms no problem, for the money it would seem a good deal, local smiths sell them new for £320 pavman

mry716
As posted on another thread I have always shot lefthanded (although I am righthanded) and have no problems whatsoever - go for it, I promise you wont be dissapointed.
sutty
Got one a few weeks back, £320 in Mossy oak break-up. cant praise them enough for the money! I have used it several times with no probs, cycles fine with 30 gram or 28s. no jams and only one miss fire, my fault, as i didn't let the bolt slam shut. They do take a bit of getting used to with regards to loading but i think i have got the hang of that. 3 year guarantee, 5 chokes, good value IMHO. Cheers Sutty. Most people ive spoke to have said they have been shooting R/Handers left handed, and have said they have had no problems. Cheers guys, think ive got all the reasurance i need to go out and try one. Dunkield
'Knock yourself out' as they say... Hatsan Escort EDIT: As I just googled that for you, I also noticed they actually state the stock length. 13 3/4" !! Christ, no wonder they don't fit me My 14 year old (small) son shot one yesterday and it came up about right on him, I have heard that Edgar Bros are doing the stock extenders now though
andy74
they seem like a good strong reliable gun, not many negative comments about them, what are the fittings like after the stock extensions are fitted? Has anybody had any bad experiances with the escort semis?

Christ, no wonder they don't fit me My 14 year old (small) son shot one yesterday and it came up about right on him, I have heard that Edgar Bros are doing the stock extenders now though Stu They are indeed bringing a stock out that is FULLY adjustable after MANY complaints about stock length. Thats the reason i went for the 3&1/2" Mag as the stock length is longer and fit's better. I contacted Edgar Bro's reguarding the stock on the standard escort of a friends gun and they said Hatsan brought out a new concept "Tri something or another" I can't remember off hand but it IS in another thread on the PW relating to Escorts. As for what do I think of the Escort! I think for the money they are hard to beat. They do the job and do it well though i WOULD recomend buying a set of Beretta mobil chokes to replace the poor quality ones you get with the escort as mine came loose after 5 shots The Beretta ones stay tight and the finish on them is WAY better.
