Got a pathfinder, but looking for a change and fancied something a hit more economical too.

Anyone got any experience of the Volvo xc70??

Is there anything else out there similar to the Volvo?

Cheers

Stu

I've got a 2006 XC70 SE Lux D5 geartronic which I've owned from new and has done 128k miles at an average fuel consumption of 32.14 mpg. It is a very comfortable car and with the 185bhp engine is pretty quick, but the fuel consumption isn't great. In the six years I've owned it apart from servicing every 18k miles I've only had to pay for consumables - brake pads and discs, tyres roughly 30k miles an axle, and two front lower wishbones.

It is now starting to cost me money, the AFM started playing up and the car went into 'limp home' mode regularly so was replaced. I've now got an EGR problem that looks like £300 to replace, and I think the exhaust is starting to blow.

In addition the suspension is electronically adjustable for 'comfort' or 'sport' mode and both front shockers are weeping at the top seal, it was an MOT advisory note in December last year and it seems is a common problem. For Volvo to replace them it's £1200, I can get a pair from a Volvo dealership discounted for £875 but that's supply only.

However, I discovered the Monroe online shop the other day and they do an OE pair for £390 inclusive plus I'll need to get them fitted and I think it'll have to go into a Volvo workshop to have them aligned with the engine management system. It will still work out far cheaper than letting a Volvo dealership do the entire job.

I've decided to cough up and keep it, I think better the devil you know, than sell it on and lose a rake of money to buy a smaller more economic car.

Freelander?

I had a v70 T5 ex police, great car, fast but thirsty.

Look out for auto boxes with transmission flutter!

Audi all road is nice but again watch out for auto box, must be serviced properly and auto oil properly changed at correct temp and intervals! Air suspension also common fault.

No complaints about it really had it 3rd hand, 7yrs with me, now starting to cost me money in big repairs, some of which is probably my doing with the ground and environment i am putting it through, suspension, dust getting in brake calipers, best estate i have had for a 2nd hand one
