Vince Green
The availability of 16 bore cartridges is very patchy in this country. Much better on the continent.
dougall
I agree,no problem getting typical game loads @ 1oz of 5/6/7 shot. I have a 100 yr old s/s which is proofed only for 1 oz so it would not be my choice for foxes/hares. Obviously within 30 yards would work but if you intend to go after hare/fox I don't think 16 bore is the way to go. It is a lovely gun for hide/walk about shooting but not ideal for your purposes. atb.

Guest cookoff013
unless you reload, forget it as an allrounder, the 16 is great in the right place. but fox?
washerboy
i like walked up rough shooting, but a lot is pest control so if it gets up in front and its legal(in season, vermin etc) it gets shot at. if the 16 isnt the one i will look for a lightweight 12, i just want to be different

roughshooter
16g is the ideal gun and has a great pattern - I have shot most things including foxes with mine. I do reload so that makes life a little easier as I can load anything I want - I have a nice 32g load with bluedot that is superb on high pheasant! Floating Chamber
I agree with Graham. The 16 gauge is a lovely gauge. I had several in the 1960/70s and should have kept them. I shoot a friend's double now and again using shells I have loaded. I load 24gram through to 32 gram using A1, A136, A0 and CSB0 powders. washerboy
Looked at the price of carts and there not that bad, about £7.50 for
roughshooter
Looked at the price of carts and there not that bad, about £7.50 for 25 If you are after factory cartridges and have a gun with a 70mm chamber then I would seriously recommend the SAGA gold 28g. I shot a lot of pheasants with these last year and was very impressed and they will be almost as cheap as a decent 12g game load The 16g is a favoured load in the USA and lots of people rave about them over there. I joined the low pressure reloaders group and have access to a massive array of reloading data for all shot types and sizes inc steel, bismuth, itm etc etc. Time to start reloading for you I think - adds a new dimension to your hobby and the first time you shoot something with your own cartridge is a wonderful experience. The 16g in this country (along with .410 and 28g) are the most viable carts to reload Regards Graham

roughshooter
I just sold my last lee loadall in 16g - it was hanging around forever!! I have lots of recipes if you can come across some reloading gear - my advice will be stick with a lee loadall as it produces consistantly good reloads Regards Graham
