16 bore...is the choice limited

Recommended Posts

I agree,no problem getting typical game loads @ 1oz of 5/6/7 shot.

I have a 100 yr old s/s which is proofed only for 1 oz so it would not be my choice for foxes/hares. Obviously within 30 yards would work but if you intend to go after hare/fox I don't think 16 bore is the way to go.

It is a lovely gun for hide/walk about shooting but not ideal for your purposes.

Looked at the price of carts and there not that bad, about £7.50 for 25

If you are after factory cartridges and have a gun with a 70mm chamber then I would seriously recommend the SAGA gold 28g.

I shot a lot of pheasants with these last year and was very impressed and they will be almost as cheap as a decent 12g game load

The 16g is a favoured load in the USA and lots of people rave about them over there. I joined the low pressure reloaders group and have access to a massive array of reloading data for all shot types and sizes inc steel, bismuth, itm etc etc. Time to start reloading for you I think - adds a new dimension to your hobby and the first time you shoot something with your own cartridge is a wonderful experience.

The 16g in this country (along with .410 and 28g) are the most viable carts to reload

Regards

Graham
