Sticky96
Hi guys, Is it a requirement on an SGC for there to be a separate ammo safe for cartridges? I know it is a requirement on an FAC but I cannot find anything on Hampshire Constabulary's website. Sticky
shakin stevens
They would like you lock it away, but its not a required.
Alanl50
I have a ammunition safe for my shotgun cartridges, it make sense, legal requirement or not I prefer them to be under lock and key. Alan
bedwards1966
No, you can store them wherever you wish. In the cabinet, under the bed, in the car, anywhere. You don't need a certificate to posses them which is why you can do as you wish with them.

Alan I do agree with you but its not the law, but it makes sense and good house keeping, you would think by now the provisions would change. AlistairB
Game carts under one bed, 20 bore carts under another, clay carts under another, works for me!
WelshLamb
Another vote for under the bed! I also keep a few hundred in my land rover
rapid12
imagine the size of the safe.. it would be like the queens bunker.. not many safes out there that can hold a few thousand carts..
scimitar
Like to keep mine locked away, nothing flash just a lock on a cupboard to keep them away from the grandbairns.
lxtav
Im the same cheap metal cabinet and a couple of cheap padlocks. Just enough to keep the kids out.
Sticky96
Ok thanks for letting me know your preferances, I have been looking at those surplus ammo boxes/tins for storage of the Cartridges. Do you think these would be secure enough if put inside the cabinet?
phaedra1106
Why put an ammo box in the cabinet?, if you're putting your carts inside the cabinet the cabinet itself will be more than enough security, adding an ammo box does nothing to add to it just takes up a bit more space. HDAV
You wont get many carts in a gun cabinet, nice idea but pointless. SHotgun carts are bought by the slab i have a 5 gun cabinet might get 3 slabs in but then would have no room guns......Think about it if someone did get into your cabinet they will have gun and ammo, leave guns in cabinet and carts under bed in another room etc they have a much harder job to get a live weapon.... Glenshooter
Would like to keep mine in a metal box of some sort but with a couple of thousand, fibre, plastic, game, light load for my lad etc, it is difficult to get them all locked away without continually having to empty the box to get what I'm after which are always at the bottom or back. Any recommendations for a commercially available box to hold say at least 8 'slabs' horizontally ie the slabs are not stacked above each other, without going as far as a gun cabinet? bedwards1966
Why? when theres no need? It's not a bad thing to keep them locked up, even though it's not a legal requirement to. Most of us don't because it's just too impractical, if I had an empty cabinet spare I'd try to lock up most of them.

I mean, what is someone going to do with them? throw them at someone?
scimitar
I don't see a problem locking carts away, but if I'm being honest I probably wouldn't bother if It wasn't for the grandbairns staying. as they are my sole reason for locking them up. xxx.Morph.xxx
I do like to store my carts somewhere safe so I have a seperate ammo safe that holds around 500 carts, not much use if your buying slabs so I bought a cheap second hand 2 drawer metal filing cabinet off evil bay, lockable & holds around 1500 cartridges. You can pick up 4 drawer metal lockable filing cabinets for about £40 off the bay & you could have a seperate drawer for fibre, plastic, game etc.

So it's no longer used. The one that I do use, (kids in the house), is substantial, but can't get much more than 1000 into it.
HDAV
How about you just put a lock on a cupboard door?
scimitar
How about you just put a lock on a cupboard door? Works fine and only costs a couple quid. Just what I did to keep them from grandbairns
