a guy at my work got caught downloading porn, usually its a dismissal, but he got caught twice.

is it just my work that tolerates it or is it commonplace.

it was just the sheer volume that was amazing.

so do you know anyone that downloads "at work" ? its very disturbing.

We have a very robust IT&Security policy that you must "click to accept" every 28 days. Personal use is restricted to 30 minutes a day, and must take place in a recognised break time... We can't even get on the lottery website because it's "gambling" and I cannot access the BBS, PW or HL forums because they are involved in "shooting" (a decision I challenged but was slapped down hard). I've been challenged by our IT department for going on amazon because some of the sponsored links and adverts at the side of the page fell in to categories that contravened our policy (I hadn't accessed them, but their presence was still recognised).

A lot of it depends on what your written policy, because that is what the company must rely on in any proceedings. If it's not clearly prohibited then it can be defended from a legal point of view, if not a moral one.

Gordon bennet I've worked at places that dismiss for downloading any file type that hasnt been pre approved by the IT dept! this could be anything from a picture or even a driver needed to work a program, but downloading the blue stuff and keeping their job that's unheard of in my book!

Would that be gay or straight? Know one or two on here who would be very interested if it was gay, transgender or bi-sexual :good:

I have just joined my companies LGBT community (it's called the Rainbow Network). Diversity is good for the career nowadays. Also sit on the Steering Committee of our Womens Network as the token male.

Part of my master plan.

I used to be the cad manager at one of the old places I worked at. got a virus notification and started to work out where it had originated from. turned out one of the guys was coming in in the evening to have a tommy tank as he had no Internet at home.

he was mortified that I had found out, but I didn't have the heart to shop him to the boss.

we`ve had an instant dismissal and 2 warnings. but it is kind of a joke really. the IT dept actually monitor quite abit.

one was illegal stuff the other was mainly home made stuff.

the bits of info the was fed back to colleagues, is there was quite alot. 10gb a day.

just to keep us informed and not to leave terminals logged in.

I can see why they dont want you looking at porn when you should be earning them money. :hmm:

I have to agree, if I ran a company there would be no internet access at desks. If internet was needed for any reason, research, etc., there would be one public terminal available.

I don't use the net for anything other than work related searches. I could not deal with the shame of getting caught looking at smut. Lets face it, its not often you search something like that out unless you are going to seal the deal shall we say. If they thought I was having a Sherman on their time it would go round the firm quicker than a safety alert.

I don't forward on email of an adult nature after what happened on a job a few years ago. I was working as a works inspector for the principle contractor and was keen to forge a good relationship with my opposite numbers on the clients side. I would engage them in non-work related chat at every opportunity to try and find out what made them tick. It soon became clear that one of the Aussies was an out and out perv so I thought I'd send him the items of 'adult interest' that I had accumulated in my inbox whilst on that job. There was a fair bit of it and I was confident that it would be well recieved. Walking in to the office the next day he shouted over 'hey Rob, wheres that stuff you said you'd send'. I told him that I'd sent it and as soon as I sat down at my desk checked to make sure it had all been sent. It had been sent succesfully so I rang him but he still hadn't recieved it. When the penny dropped I thought I was going to have a Connery. Transpired that there was somebody else in TFL with a very similar surname in the upper echelons that now had an inbox that was bursting with filth. I never heard back or got disciplined and I was on the job for another two years so the mystery recipient might even have put in a good word for me

In my last job before going self employed one of my tasks was to have a snoop at people's work email if it was strongly suspected they were doing something fishy.

If never ceased to amaze me that supposedly intelligent switched on people didn't seem to realise we could read every word they were typing on company email.

One memorable 'off the record' friendly chat I had to have with someone (who was married) involved me discovering she has been letting a competitor into the office after hours, allowing him access to not only her PC but also her hoo-hoo, arranging to buy cocaine off him using company email etc etc.

That was an awkward one as I quite liked her. Luckily she saw reason and did the decent thing.

Be careful!!

Don't tell me, she gave you good reason not to drop her in it with the boss? ;)

Oh yeah, executive perk mate!!

No sadly the owners had it in for her so the decent thing in her case was resigning. She was half decent though, I probably would have, if I'd been a Charlie sniffing philanderer....

the thing that makes it really funny, is he was foreign and the company had sponsored him to work in the UK. you just wouldnt risk it.

surely there are shops for this sort of thing.

to add to the other piece of hysterics , i applied for the job he did, but they told me they`d rather hire someone else not me ! lol

I had a senior company engineer working on a ship I was on, he spent a great deal of time on the ship's computer.

He wasn't bright enough to delete the sites he'd been to from memory.

No, not porn, engineering employment agencies! He didn't stay long.
